Cytokinetics scientists have discovered a robust pipeline of small molecule muscle activators including omecamtiv mecarbil, our Phase 3 drug candidate for people living with heart failure; and reldesemtiv, our Phase 2 drug candidate for people living with SMA, COPD, ALS or frailty. Our muscle biology drug discovery and development platform has great potential for many other diseases and medical conditions characterized by muscle weakness, fatigue, or diminished muscle function.

I have been working at Cytokinetics full-time (More than 10 years)
I have been at CK for over 10 years and have thoroughly enjoyed my time there. It is a job that will continuously challenge and stretch your abilities, but there is ample opportunity to have great impact on your surroundings. Leadership is very strong at CK, and most of the people in the company share a common phenotype of very intelligent, hard working, and very helpful and collaborative
The biggest downside to working at CK is continually having too much on your plate at once. It is sometimes difficult for me to spend enough time on any given effort, since there is often many simultaneous competing demands on my time.
Advice to Management
Management has always been very supportive of their employees, who in turn try their best to do their jobs as well as they can. They should realize that most CK employees are not the type to complain about their workloads, but will eventually suffer the effects of continually trying to go above and beyond to keep up with what they perceive their expectations to be. An individualized, proactive approach will help to keep their employees more balanced and improve the quality of their work.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Cytokinetics (South San Francisco, CA) in August 2017.
I gave a 30 min PowerPoint given to a diverse group of ~20 employees on my dissertation and postdoctoral work researching cardiovascular physiology and pathology. This was followed by one-on-one interviews with each member of the team. The the HR coordinator called the next day to negotiate salary and this information was forwarded to the temp agency who offered the contract. They were very direct and efficient.
