DB&A is a company of creative, high energy problem solvers. We know how to “roll up our sleeves” and get significant results for our clients. Since 2012, a culture change has been underway at DB&A which embraces “servant-based leadership” where Senior Leaders empower Consultants and Project Managers to obtain results for the success of each client. DB&A Founder, Lou DeWolff believed that "consulting is a noble profession" and we still believe that today.

We value:

  • A strong work ethic
  • Tenacity
  • Accountability
  • Results
  • Generosity

DB&A  teamed up with Make-A-Wish at the end of 2013. In addition to donating funds to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, DB&A employees are donating unused airline miles which are essential to getting wish kids to their destinations. Employees who fly on Delta, United, and US Airways are effortlessly donating frequent flier miles, in just a few easy steps, by visiting the Make-A-Wish website.

By the end of 2014, DB&A employees donated 285,649 miles which exceeded our corporate goal of 250,000 miles. These donated miles never expire and are never used for anything other than wish travel.

After spending more than a decade working for a much larger consulting firm, Lou DeWolff and Tim Boberg founded DB&A in 1987. The inspiration for this new company was their joint
realization that clients did not receive all of the benefits they had been promised by consulting firms - yet they were still expected to pay the consultant's full fee.

This inequitable situation convinced both men that a different kind of consulting company was needed, one that was smaller, more results-oriented, and could guarantee specific, measurable improvements from its proposals. The new firm would be guided by two important principles:

  • Stand behind commitments to clients through a true guarantee
  • Ultimately achieve measurable results

This was a radical concept at the time, since few other consultancies provided written guarantees based on results; yet to Lou and Tim, it seemed like the natural way for a consulting firm to operate.

In the years since, DB&A has achieved phenomenal growth based on the ability to consistently deliver savings promised to clients. In fact, approximately 70 percent of our revenues have traditionally come from repeat or referral work from existing clients. Today, DB&A is an organization of more than 200 full-time professionals.

The Guarantee

The DB&A Guarantee is more than a financial promise - it is a mutual commitment to work toward a predetermined set of goals. Through this written contract, we guarantee specific performance improvements. As a client, you agree to follow our recommendations - and potentially make tough choices - in order to meet these benchmarks. Most of our clients are overwhelmed by the success of their projects, as we typically exceed our goals by 50 percent.

With both parties vested in the outcome and with our mutually attainable goals established, the long-term engagement begins. If we don't meet our goals by the end of our set timeline, we'll either keep working until we do or refund fees based on the proposed return on investment.

In addition to identifying specific skills or processes that need to be integrated or improved, we provide one-on-one leadership coaching at the management level. We also provide skill coaching at all levels in order to optimize communication and inspire accountability across departments and job titles. This environment of accountability fosters "ownership" of goals and job tasks, empowers employees to perform at the highest possible levels, and lays a strong foundation for ongoing improvement. DB&A's intense focus on implementation - rather than merely providing advice or guidance - allows our clients to experience truly sustainable improvements in performance.

To sharpen their own skills, our Consultants openly give and receive feedback from and to peers and managers.

In addition, we get exposure to multiple industries and work centers and consistently coach our clients to find and implement opportunities for improvement.-- Employee, Chanda F.

I love helping people become better at what they want to do professionally which often times can carry over to their personal lives. At the end of each project, when I lay my head down on that hotel pillow for the last night, I know I changed lives for the better.-- Employee, Nick A.

Michael Jordan once said, “Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.” So, why I love this job is simple. I love it for the magic that is achieved through the hard work of a strong, smart, fun, dedicated team that works together to achieve magic.--Employee, Joy H.

I feel fortunate to have started a career with a company that I wholeheartedly believe recognizes potential in each of its employees. I have been working at DB&A full-time (More than 3 years)

DB&A will take the skill sets you came into the company with, and challenge you to expand upon them. You will be given insight on how to take an established proven process (the Management Operating System) and apply it to meet the client’s needs. I personally have learned a great deal from the longer-tenured consultants, especially regarding strategic approaches to move the client. Another element that has helped, is the multiple ways to analyze data, then how to take the information and present it. Whatever graph or chart used, presenting it in a concise manner that screams, “This is a problem, do something about it” sets the tone for the client to own the fix, while they want to ask for your assistance in a permanent solution.

Often times, many of the employees at DB&A are offering their time to help the newer consultants with a variety of things that truly aid in the development of the people here. Each project team adopts a comradery and sense of unity to help each other and exceed the anticipated results. During our daily debriefs, each consultant speaks to their assigned area; the performance, the wins, the concerns, etc. This venue gives others on the team insight to how each cog relates to the wheel, and provides a chance for everyone to learn something, regardless of tenure. Team members are encouraged to provide honest and constructive feedback to each other, for a continuous learning environment.

To new-hires, I would recommend taking notes as often as possible because you will be learning a lot, be a sponge and absorb all that you are taught. This will help tremendously when you are applying that learning to the floor and ask, ask, ask questions of the senior staff; they will steer you in the right direction without necessarily giving away the answer. In those instances, you will come upon the answer on your own, and it will be more valuable to you that way. You will see in your clients, that ‘Ah-hah’ moment when they get it, when they see why managing their people is so important. You will look back to your own ‘Ah-hah’ moments and from both angles, you will feel a great sense of accomplishment.

Hours vary by project, to do right by the client, the hours invested will likely require more than a typical 9-5.
