DHL Express proudly certified as a Global Top Employer again!
DP DHL earned the top Grand Stevie Award for the fifth consecutive year for being the most honored organization at the worlds top Customer Service and Sales Awards presented recently in Las Vegas!
A division of Deutsche Post DHL (DPDHL) Group – the world’s leading postal and logistics provider – DHL Express operates with an international focus that sets it apart from the competition. We are continually re-investing to improve service by expanding and upgrading our worldwide infrastructure, which includes around 1,500 facilities, with three state-of-the-art global hubs in Cincinnati, Hong Kong and Leipzig, Germany.
It’s our world-class service quality that makes us the Most Insanely Customer Centric Company in the World. Businesses know they can rely on us to help them expand into new global markets to increase revenue – which is essential to success in the 21st century.
However, great service starts with our people, and we invest heavily to educate, develop and maximize every employee’s individual potential from the start.
It all started in 1969 when company founders Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn (who gave us the D, H and L) saw a need, so they started a small courier company, delivering documents to and from California and Hawaii. The business quickly grew beyond just documents, becoming the first to provide door-to-door express shipping service internationally.
Then, during the 1970s and ’80s, DHL set the bar even higher as the first company ever to offer express delivery to places including Japan, Mexico, Singapore and the Philippines, as well as countries in Latin America and Eastern Europe.
In 2018, DHL Express was ranked by the prestigious Great Place to Work® as one of the world’s Top 10 Best Workplaces, as well as being named for the third consecutive year as one of the Top Employers Institute’s 10 Global Top Employers.
Our corporate culture is built on openness, trust and mutual respect, and we look for candidates who will exemplify our company’s Four Pillars of Speed, Passion and a Can-Do attitude to get the job done Right the First Time for our customers, every day.
To help them as they begin their DHL journey, all new hires go through our groundbreaking DHL Express Certified International Specialist (CIS) training program, which provides an introduction to both the company and the industry, as well as other valuable learning to help them excel in their roles.
In addition, all 90,000 DHL employees worldwide have easy access to various types of specialized training, support and opportunities for continued learning that can help further their careers. Plus, to recognize outstanding performance, the DHL Express Employee of the Year program selects winners from every country in the DHL network, rewarding them with prizes that, in the past, have included cash, an all-expenses-paid vacation and more.
At its core, DHL is all about connecting people, improving lives and protecting the planet. We call it Living Responsibility – and as part of that, we believe in always doing business the right way.
We see it as our responsibility to use our unrivaled global infrastructure and logistics expertise to help people in ways that most other companies simply cannot. That’s the thinking behind our three main programs: GoGreen (environmental protection); GoHelp (disaster management) and GoTeach (improving education globally).
As part of these efforts, DPDHL launched Global Volunteer Day (GVD) in 2008 as a platform to help employees connect and collaborate with local organizations and charities on projects to help their communities. By 2016, over 106,000 employees were helping to support nonprofit projects as part of the GVD program, contributing more than 365,000 volunteer hours on more than 2,400 individual projects in 119 countries around the world.
Also, in partnership with the United Nations, DPDHL sponsors a Disaster Response Team, which consists of specially trained employees who travel to assist victims of large-scale emergency situations and catastrophes around the world. Plus, we created the Mission 2050: Zero Emissions initiative with the goal of completely eliminating harmful pollutants throughout the organization.
These are just a few of the ways DHL and its employees are giving back at both local and global levels.
I have been working at DHL Express full-time
Invest heavily in high quality in-house training. Strong network of people globally all willing to help each other. Engaged management who spend 3/4 of their time in the field. Fully engaged. Diverse workforce who have worked around the world. Competitive pay.
Limited service offerings due to no domestic product. Selling niche high end service. Good strategy by organization but hard on sales reps.
Advice to Management
Keep doing what you are doing. Love your engagement and love for your people and customers. Keep investing in trainings. Continue to create new career opportunities and promote from within. Allow people to be DHLers for life.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at DHL Express (Tempe, AZ) in June 2018.
I was referred by a friend for the position
First step: Intital Phone screen to gauge your knowledge and interest
Second step: More traditional style interview with question focused on sales, experience, potential fit, and goals.
Final step: They fly you out to Tempe, AZ for an observation, presentation, and panel interview. The presentation is your time to sell yourself and your added benefit. The panel interview is half STAR base and half traditional question based.
