DataXu – Why Work For Us?

Welcome to a World of Data-Driven Marketing

Why work at DataXu? Because you want to work for a market leader poised for explosive growth – but still small enough so that everyone makes a difference. Free weekly lunches, happy hours and costume competitions? Yeah, we’ve got all that.

In 2009, DataXu was founded on the premise that data science could help make marketing better. Not just more efficient for agencies or more profitable for brands, but also more personalized and more engaging for consumers.

Our vision of helping marketers truly understand how marketing investments cause sales and profitable customer relationships is now a reality. And we’re proud to say that the world’s top brands and agencies partner with us to deliver real results and prove how marketing impacts the business.

DataXu today remains an open next-generation marketing analytics platform that enables marketers to better understand and engage consumers in a programmatic world, no matter what device they’re using. With 15 offices in eleven countries, DataXu services more than 700 brands across the globe.

Welcome to the Programmatic Marketing Revolution

It used to be enough for a CMO to point to a great creative campaign, a positive brand lift study or increased website traffic as evidence of effective marketing. Today, marketers everywhere are under increasing pressure to provide quantifiable evidence of how marketing is helping an organization grow. DataXu helps marketers get there at last.

Innovation Day is a DataXu tradition. When it's Innovation Day, employees stop the day-to-day work to partner with colleagues around the globe on projects to better our company.  Team structures are suspended for that day, and employees are welcomed and encouraged to work with anyone they want on any project that they feel will benefit the company.  Innovation Day is completely devoted to breaking up a normal day, being creative, and working with people who don’t normally don’t get to collaborate.

This idea for Innovation Day was inspired by research into the world’s most innovative companies.  The key, unifying theme between the most innovative companies is that each of them find a way for employees to do self-driven creative work, even when this work has less than a 100% chance of success.  This gives each employee the chance to take a risk and go down a path that he or she thinks is a good idea, without worrying about missing deadlines or objectives.  It might fail, but that's OK!  You can’t innovate without taking a risk.

No meetings will interrupt your concentration, no phone calls, no scrum, no backlog.  It's just our teams creatively working together for 24 hours.
Innovation Day is the chance to research a new business or marketing idea, try out a new code library, come up with a crazy new product, invent a new machine learning trick, or fix some annoying bug that is never a top priority.  Innovation is not just on the core product, it's all aspects of the business, from ad operations to people strategy to finance to product.  Everyone can be innovative and over 40% of our Innovation Day ideas have been implemented into our business.  We’re proud to support innovation and give our employees room to grow, learn and create something astonishing!

    Pros

The people behind the teach are very smart. A lot of growth the past few years and one of the few remaining truly independent DSPs.

    Cons

They sometimes get in their own way . This can come in a variety of flavors....whether it's overlooking the talent within for promotion and growth or believing the DataXu way is the right way.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within, listen to your employees. Keep the communication - like the monthly meetings up by way of showing transparency.

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at DataXu (Boston, MA) in September 2017.

    Interview

First I took an online personality quiz. After that it was a standard process- an initial phone screen followed by a 2 hour panel interview on site with 4 different interviewers who met with me for 30 minutes each. I was welcomed upon arrival at the office and got a brief tour of the space before settling into the interview room, and each interviewer came in one at a time. Afterwards, my main point of contact from HR met with me to debrief and actually went over the personality quiz results, so that was really cool.

Even though I did not ultimately get the job, the HR team did an excellent job of following through and being transparent with me. I was never left hanging and wondering when I would hear back about next steps, and they would update me even if it was just to touch base and tell me they didn't have an update yet. It was a really positive interview experience and I would absolutely recommend applying here. They know how to treat candidates like people and really understand that when you're looking for a job you're managing your own search just like they're managing a search for the role you're applying to at their company.
