I applied online. I interviewed at Dataiku (Ireland)

    Interview

I applied for a full-stack engineer position (actually more backend-oriented they said). 1. Had a call with the recruiter who was really nice and helpful. 2. Had another nice call with the engineering manager who wants to know you, nice open questions about your experience and tech in general. 3. Take-home assignment. This is a really big project, considering that they want it production ready. They say you can take all the time you want to complete it, as if they were the only company you apply for and you want to spend hours and hours for them. However, I was rejected by e-mail because of: - A warning in the web console generated by an external library. - Couple of UI bugs, which were not even mentioned. - UI too basic (didn't know full stack engineers needed to be designers too, my bad). - Here's the best: algorithm is poor. Some explanations on the last item: the problem was finding the best path in a weighted graph, where weights change over time and you can wait on a node. Their complaint was that my solution considered cycles. I sent them an example proving that you actually need cycles, since you might need to move back and forth from two nodes, waiting for better conditions. However, they didn't even reply. Quite disappointing to get rejected by e-mail after so much time spent on the project. Be careful to not waste your time unless you are really desperate.
