In 2003, Tonnie Schmidt and Tim Schmidt founded this organization in hopes to create and provide reliable resources to responsible citizens who take their safety into their own hands. The type of people who will do ANYTHING to protect those they love... and then Tonnie and Tim found a group of people who believe in that same mission. Collectively, we've built a fun, unstoppable, and intensly hard-working team.

The story of Delta Defense and the USCCA–is similar to the story of many Americans. In July 2003, I had become a father for the first time and the reality of being responsible for a tiny, fragile human being hit me like a ton of bricks. It was then I set out on my 'self-defense journey.'
As an engineer, I'm no stranger to research and diving into the details, so that's exactly where I started. The troubling thing was I could only find minimal resources on defending myself or my family. I trained in taekwondo, I bought a handgun (that's a whole story for another time...) but I felt like I lacked the knowledge and confidence to actually protect my wife and newborn son if, God-forbid, I ever had to.
What struck me most is that in no way did I feel like I could be the only one who wanted–or needed–this important information, skill and know-how. With the driven, entrepreneurial spirit I inherited from my Dad, I sought out to create that resource myself. And that's when Concealed Carry Magazine was born at Tonnie's and my kitchen table...
Though it took time, money and A LOT of energy (and some humbling failure in the beginning,) the magazine finally took off and is now read by over 300,000 Americans!
After the inception of the magazine, the USCCA seemed like the next logical step! And soon enough, thousands of subscribers were active in our community through our weekly newsletter, online forum, and even the early days of social media.
But 2011 is when things got really exciting...USCCA introduced a program for its members called Self-Defense SHIELD. It provides legal and financial protection to all members if they ever have to lawfully defend themselves or their families with a firearm.
Today, hundreds of thousands of Americans trust their USCCA memberships, and it's most humbling to be able to say we have their backs. It's truly an honor to defend these hard-working, responsible patriots.
Now, obviously, there's much more to the story (you can read it all in my book, Guns, Freedom And The American Dream.) Not all business models are flawless and none truly take off over night, but looking back, it almost feels that way.
And I know Tonnie and I couldn't have done any of it without the help from our family and my parents (especially my Dad and his limitless wisdom which has always guided many of my decisions,) and the incredible community of West Bend (where my family and the USCCA call home.)
And of course, the one thing that inspires me most: the Delta Defense team. The way they believe in the same mission I do–a mission that seemed inconceivable all those years ago–it motivates me to be a better person and strive to be a stronger leader...a leader they all deserve. I truly love this team and I'm so honored to work beside them every day.

I have been working at Delta Defense full-time (More than a year)
Delta Defense and the USCCA is more than a company. It a family and community of like minded individuals who are dedicated to protecting those they love from the evils in the world. The take great care of their employees, especially during these trying times, and I'm looking to seeing what's to come.
None come to mind. Some growing pains but that's to be expected
Advice to Management
Keep doing what you're doing. We are seeing record growth and we need to continue to get the word out that Delta Defense and the USCCA is here to Educate, Train and Protect those who are willing to protect those who protect themselves and others.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Delta Defense (Portsmouth, VA) in June 2020.
Phone interview with HR, standard interviews questions. Gave a great overview of company Culture and Mission. Gave a positive impression of the type of people they want to hire. I am glad to see they are not just looking for a body to fill a role, they are looking for the right fit for the company and the position.
