Mindy Kaling shared her love for PreCleanse in US Weekly's July 10th issue in the story "Stars' Summer Skin Saviors" and not once, but twice on her Instagram. Mindy says, "It's just an awesome way to get makeup off."
When Dermalogica meets skin, skin health is redefined. Dermalogica is the number one choice of skin care professionals and consumers worldwide.
While the Dermalogica story begins in 1986, the force of change in the industry started in Los Angeles, circa 1983. Jane Wurwand, a tenured, United Kingdom-trained skin therapist new to the American "esthetician" industry, recognized that continuing skin and body therapy education was practically non-existent in the United States. While her training had been comprehensive and serious, US students entered the industry licensed yet under-trained, and worse, under-respected. Jane put her education in action, opening a small classroom in Marina del Rey, California under the name The International Dermal Institute (IDI). She invited licensed skin therapists to get hands-on with the postgraduate training so critical to making them competitive in the business. Today, IDI is considered the international gold-standard for postgraduate skin and body therapy training with 37 locations worldwide.
While teaching at IDI, it didn’t take long for Jane to realize no product line embraced her belief of skin health as opposed to "beauty," so she developed her own. And in 1986, Dermalogica was born. The vision was clear – a product line free of common irritants and ingredients that could cause breakouts (including lanolin, SD alcohol, mineral oil, artificial colors and fragrances) that would improve skin health, and were only available from qualified skin care professionals trained at The International Dermal Institute.
(Or beautiful. Or pampering. Or luxury.) We’re far too interested in guiding you to a new level of skin health fitness! So, while our packaging may not be designed to color-coordinate with your bathroom, you can always be sure that we use ingredients that we know will work – our confidence founded by skin care professionals worldwide who use our products in their treatment rooms every day because they get results.

The International Dermal Institute has empowered women with education for over 30 years. Through FITE, Dermalogica has helped fund more than 75,000 business loans for women entrepreneurs in 68 countries, and provided scholarships for girls, many the first in their family to attend school, in 15 countries.
what we're doing next
NEW! FITE entrepreneur accelerator
Our just-announced FITE Entrepreneurship Accelerator is a new model of online, purpose-driven education that fills critical business skills gaps to help small, entrepreneurial businesses grow to scale. Our first phase will focus on helping entrepreneurs in the salon industry achieve their highest success; but our ambition is to serve as a blueprint that other sectors can adopt to help truly accelerate entrepreneurship and financial dignity.
We believe employees are our most valuable asset and as such, have created a comprehensive benefits program to meet your needs.
Full-time employees working at least 30 hours per week are eligible to participate in the Dermalogica health plan. Employees may cover their spouse/domestic partner and eligible children to age 26 regardless of student status. Eligible employees are effective on the 1st of the month following one month of employment.
health and wellness
retirement and financial wellness
I have been working at Dermalogica full-time (More than 5 years)
- Great Brand & outstanding products
- Innovative ("move fast and break things") culture
- Excellent leadership (both long-standing employees and new leaders)
- Trust in the next generation of leadership to manage strategic initiatives
- Great professional development seminars and learning tools from parent company and sister brands
- Career progression and opportunity for travel
As we are adjusting to a new way of working there is often cross over in roles and responsibilities, resulting in inefficiencies. I would expect that this would ease in time as projects become more clearly defined and departments are aligned.
Advice to Management
Continue to foster the innovative and supportive culture. During my tenure at Dermalogica I have experienced some personal hardship and the support and warmth from senior management was incredible. It is heartwarming to know that as a dedicated employee the business is committed to my well-being as much as I am to the brand’s continued success.
I applied online. I interviewed at Dermalogica (Chicago, IL) in June 2017.
Had a phone interview with HR, then another phone interview with the lead education director and after that they sent me to Chicago for an in person interview! Once I arrived for my in person interview I sat in on a great AGEsmart class then proceeded to give a 15 minute presentation so that they could feel confident in my ability to build a quality presentation and deliver information in a creative way.
