   I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Dover (Mexico) in Jun 2022

   They reached out to me, somehow got my personal email and asked me to do a phone screen. I was intrigued so agreed but now I definitely regret wasting time responding to this. Initial Phone screen went well, but the interviewer really didn’t seem very knowledgeable about the dev team or what types of skills they needed. They pushed me through to the next round. Next round was a 40min “Live Coding Exercise” with a member of the team, followed by 20 min of talking to the interviewer. I asked the contact (there were like 4 different people who were in contact with me through this process so I wasn’t really sure who to ask) if it was a typical whiteboarding exercise or what to expect, but got no response.
   
   During the live coding exercise, I was a little disoriented, because they said I could use any language but then the interviewer encouraged me to use JavaScript instead of ruby since he did not know ruby. I went with it since I thought it would be more of a typical whiteboarding exercise where the main goal is to pair with your interviewer and be able to talk things through. It ended up being a pretty complicated question for a 40 min limit, we didn’t make it very far, and of course I didn’t make it to the next round.. honestly it felt like their judgement here is extremely unrealistic as in real life you would never be trying to code as fast as possible under a 40 minute time limit while also trying to engage with one of your coworkers. I think most devs would instead spend time just focusing on the problem first, which is obviously not an option In this type of setting.
   
   It just seems like they are doing themselves a disservice by using an unrealistic timed paired test as their main form of evaluation (should be either classic whiteboarding/pairing, or a take home problem, not some stressful Frankenstein of the two)
   

   Interview
