I worked at ECG Management Consultants full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - I was privileged to work with a diverse and talented group of consultants (including our principal) who were eager teammates and committed to our team's success as well as my own. Really hit the jackpot on this one.
    - I appreciated the rigorous focus on quality work output and constructive feedback, which I felt help me grow in my career more than anything else.
    - The client work was interesting across the organization, keeping ahead of industry trends. Teams presented work to the rest of the company, which was a great experience to learn about other practice specialties and potential opportunities for work.
    - Compensation was fair.

    Cons

At the time, it was a relatively small shop and local work was limited, so on-site travel to clients was frequent and work/life balance suffered significantly. This is a fact of life for many consultants, and while many are successful and enjoy this type of lifestyle, it was not for me.

I had no notable negative experiences in my time with ECG that would cause me to withhold a recommendation.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at ECG Management Consultants.

    Interview

Our of my application process with the Big 4, MBB, and Boutique firms, this firm probably has one of the worse HR department period.
    - First, the HR recruiters do not seem to foster innovative personalities, rather they tend to have an affinity for a more "traditional" (cookie-cutter) candidates.
    - Second, the turn-around is usually very quick (less than 48 hours), I really wonder if HR really discuss the resumes or just glance at them and make impulsive decision.
    - Third, lack of respect for applicants, when I applied for McKinsey, a firm that has probably many times more applications, the recruiter personally reached out to me and discussed the position as well as provided me some feedbacks for next time trying. Not so with ECG, every email is a template in which the only words that left blank are your name and the date.
Conclusion: because of the lack of innovative culture, lack of systematic & professional screening methods, and lack of respect for candidates, I don't see ECG reaching the level of prestige of its competitors considering Human Capital is the most important resource in the Consulting business.
