I worked at East Jefferson General Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)
Always provided evidence-based, patient-centered care.
Minimal opportunities for career advancement.
I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at East Jefferson General Hospital (Metairie, LA) in September 2016.
I interviewed with three different people. First, I went to the Employment Center, which is a department in the hospital. Here, I watched a video, filled out essay-length answers to all types of scenarios, and met with the associate in charge of asking for basic information. After two hours of this, I was walked to the department and interviewed by my potential supervisor (another hour).
I was called back a week later and returned to interview with the department head (30 minutes). I was called several days later and offered the job. I received an offer letter stating my start date, salary, and benefits information. I accepted and was told to attend an orientation the next month, which would be considered my first day. Prior to that, I needed to schedule a physical and drug test/HR appointment. I went to this yesterday, and my orientation session was confirmed for the following week. I then received a call today from the Employment Center associate, who told me that the POSITION WAS PUT ON HOLD. What? Why wait so long to decide this? After 5 weeks of calls, interviews, and offers, not to mention the 3 vials of blood they drew just yesterday, I am more than a little upset about this decision. They had 5 weeks to determine need, and I could have been looking for another job! I turned down 2 offers in that time, and was literally waiting on the orientation so I could start working.
The casual nature in which they dropped this bomb on me led to my negative review. Other than that, everyone was nice and professional. If I dined in a nice restaurant and had delicious food, and the meal ended in an armed robbery, my review would be negatively impacted. That is what this experience felt like.
Does it matter? I can't take this organization seriously after they seriously disrupted my life.
