I have been working at Edinburgh Woollen Mill full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great team of people to work with at the shop. Lovely customers most of the time.
Interesting and diverse stock to sell. Variety of customers from around the world.

    Cons

The people at the top of the company don’t appreciate the staff they employ.
It is all about the profit and the margin.
Hard work and long hours with below average pay.
No pay increase for 4 years but the expectation to work ever harder.
Bonus scheme is a joke - targets are so high you never achieve it,
20% discount which is basically the same as customers are given through promotions each season. Uniform provided at a low yearly allowance.
Outdated equipment and no investment in repairs to heating etc

    Advice to Management

You lose capable dedicated people because you treat them badly.
You lose knowledge and expertise because you don’t appreciate the people that work for you, investment in people is needed. Pay increases and an overhaul of the benefits would help so much and create a much improved atmosphere. Happy staff = Happy customers and more sales.

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Edinburgh Woollen Mill (Cardiff, Wales (UK)) in November 2017.

    Interview

I got a call for an interview a couple of days after I applied, and I did the interview about a week after this call. The interview was about 10 minutes and they only asked a couple of simple questions.
