I worked at Edline full-time (More than 3 years)
1.) Generous days off
2.) Free soda!!!
3.) Colleagues who care about the product
4.) World's hardest-working Tech Support team, in my opinion
5.) Many people have a fun sense of humor
1.) Before the Blackboard acquisition: Poor upper management, lack of decent project planning and product focus
2.) After the Blackboard acquisition: Too many tasks thrown on too quickly, getting lost in minor details
3.) This is mainly just me, but I hated working in downtown Chicago - so many people, bums, crazy cabs, etc.
Advice to Management
When I left, the new management was doing well at working on fixing some of the processes and flubs from previous management. Keep up the good work!
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Edline (Chicago, IL) in August 2011.
Initial screening done by a light technical phone interview. An 'Achiever Test' was then required to be completed online. Onsite interview process was done with several developers for technical interviews, then a discussion of past projects and work experience with a manager, followed by a short discussion with the CTO. After the interview a coding problem was assigned for completion at home.
I was able to negotiate for higher compensation due to the difference in benefits provided by my previous employer.
