I have been working at Edmonds Community College full-time
The students tell me they feel EdCC is warm and welcoming. New students are often met with a smile. The majority of the staff are there for the right reasons and this shows in their work. People feel cared for and staff work to treat people with respect.
Typical Cons in Higher Ed:
Too many interim positions has led to morale problems. But, people wanting to work in Higher Ed today do not always stay well beyond 1-2 yrs in their positions, for reasons I believe related to cost of living growth or desire for personal growth. On the other end, people who have been employed for a long time have trouble accepting new leadership and changes, which may also affect new employees deciding to stay.
Advice to Management
Improve interim terms and provide clearer timeline expectations.
I applied online. The process took 5+ months. I interviewed at Edmonds Community College (Edmonds, WA) in February 2016.
I sat around a table with about 6 other people. At the start of the interview I was asked to give a 20 minute lesson that would be appropriate for a lower division mechanical engineering class. I was told about this part in advance so I was able to prepare. During the lesson, the interviewers asked me questions just like they would in class. After the lesson they interviewers each asked me a succession of 12 prewritten questions. They were not allowed to deviate in their questioning but I was encouraged to elaborate on my answers.
