Our History

Founder Bill Mullis was a provider of guard dogs for more than twenty years. In 1991, despite having his protective fleet on site, he was still experiencing break-ins. He then decided to build, test, and continuously improve an electric security fence designed to offer the best protection for his place of business. In time, this electric security fence, due to its unmatched deterrence value, replaced the dogs and we soon became the Electric Guard Dog.

Our company quickly grew into a multi-faceted security business over the next two decades as companies in the auto auction, metal recycling, freight, and rental industries began seeing the results and cost savings that the Electric Guard Dog brought them. We've grown to become a security partner for market leaders in all of these core segments and recognized as the #1 Theft Deterrent Service™ in the U.S.

In 2007, a majority interest in Electric Guard Dog was acquired by a group of private investors lead by Ulysses Management. Seeing the ever-increasing demand for our products and services, and the opportunity to broaden the reach of the product to new industries, the new ownership group began to put in place the infrastructure for growth. A key first step in the process was the hiring of CEO Jack DeMao and a new management team.

Since then, Electric Guard Dog has experienced rapidly accelerated growth for the market-leading electric security fence company nationwide. Over the last 8 years, RMR has tripled and the company intends to triple again over the next several years.
 

 
In 2016, the company experienced annual double-digit growth during this remarkable year that included Electric Guard Dog's acquisition by Snow Phipps, with Jack and the existing Electric Guard Dog management team continuing to lead the company. This deal earned two M&A Advisor "Deal of the Year" nominations. Less than two months after EGD’s acquisition, the company closed on its own acquisition, Perimeter Security Systems, and was named SDM Magazine's 2016 Dealer of the Year.
 
The company has been named to the Inc. List for the last five years, as well as being ranked in the top 30 security companies in the U.S. on the SDM 100 List for the past six years, named to Security Dealer & Integrator's "Fast 50" of security integrators for six years, and named to South Carolina’s List of the Best Places to Work.

Our Process: How to become an outside sales rep for Electric Guard Dog

Electric Guard Dog plays 'money ball in the security market'. By that, we mean we look for transferable skills inside and more frequently, outside the security market.

If you're going to be happy and successful in a career with Electric Guard Dog, you need to have:

In a high-growth company, we are continually recruiting new talent. We want to help you understand the fit with Electric Guard Dog as quickly as possible to respect your time and ours. Therefore, we have developed the following recruitment process:

  • We use Bessire & Associates as our Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) partner. Your application will go to Jason Bessire and Sharon Cousar for review. (We advertise for about 4 weeks)

    Pros

    Been working for EGD for 10+ years. Company has grown but still remains a family. New positions are being created and hard work affords new opportunities. Randy Mullis, J Bury and Jack DeMao have been great to work for.
