Emerson Hospital – Why Work For Us?

Emerson provides advanced medical services to more than 300,000 people in 25 towns. We're a 179-bed hospital with more than 300 primary care doctors and specialists, caring for everything from arrhythmias to urology.

Our core mission has always been to make high-quality health care more accessible to those who live and work in our community. To further this mission, Emerson has outpatient facilities in the towns of Westford, Groton, Sudbury and Concord, Massachusetts.

Emerson is well known for its outstanding nursing care and patient-centered facilities, including the Bethke Cancer Center and our Birthing Center, which has the area’s only Special Care Level 2 Nursery for moderately ill newborns.

While we provide all of the services that most patients will ever need, the hospital's strong clinical collaborations with Boston’s academic medical centers ensures that you have access to world-class resources for more advanced care.

The difference is you.
Your insight. Your talent. Your confidence. Your touch. At Emerson Hospital, we know the real difference in our care is what you bring to it. Join us, and experience the Emerson Difference—a work culture that reflects the essence of compassionate care for our patients and each other.

Caring is what we do.
Since 1911, our communities have looked to us to provide the most sophisticated, high-quality care available, close to home.

Today, Emerson has grown to become a regional health system serving over 300,000 individuals in 25 communities in our area. And while much has changed, our commitment has remained the same: to provide advanced care in an atmosphere of warmth and compassion. It’s why we continually invest in new technologies and treatments. And it’s why we invest so heavily in our people—in their education, their growth, their futures.

NURSING

Our mission: To be the best place to come for care and work.

No one knows this better than our own nurses. At Emerson Hospital, you’ll find a culture of collaboration and professional respect unlike anywhere else. Here, nurses have the unique opportunity to develop a real rapport with patients. You’ll find a family-like environment shared between colleagues and patients alike. In fact, our nurses average 20 years of experience and have treated generations of families—keeping community care close to home.

Emerson Hospital Careers: Nursing

“I enjoy working in the Emergency Department primarily because of the other people I work with. Everyone on the team, including physicians, other nurses, techs and unit clerks are very knowledgeable, hardworking and always willing to lend a hand when another team member needs help. I feel good about working for Emerson Hospital because the organization is looking ahead and planning for the future today.”

– Michael Sprague

Our patients expect outstanding nursing care.

Emerson Hospital is well-known for outstanding nursing care and patient-centered facilities, like our Birthing Center and Special Care Level 2 Nursery—the only specialty care nursery in the area providing 24-hour, in-house coverage by pediatricians and anesthesiologists. While we pride ourselves as being “Concord’s hospital,” we offer a level of advanced care that rivals the nation’s largest institutions.

What makes working at Emerson truly different, however, is the environment itself. While we all entered health care to make a difference in our communities, the nurses at Emerson Hospital are more than caregivers. To our patients, we’re their neighbors and friends. Many of our patients know us by name. And they trust us, because they know we bring our families here, too.

Emerson is also extraordinarily committed to your career. Our leadership understands the importance of nursing. A nurse herself, our CEO believes that one of the most effective ways to improve patient care is to listen to her staff. It makes each of us more accountable, more involved. I have been working at Emerson Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Everyone who walks through the halls is kind and compassionate. Come visit and walk through the halls to see for yourself! They way your treated in the hallway, is the same way you're treated on the floors as a patient. Patients are truly #1 here at Emerson. When it's busy, our manager buys us pizza or cookies. I know it's a small thing, but it means a lot. Management recognizes when the staff need a boost. I've worked in a few other local hospitals and I've never been happier then being here at Emerson.

    Cons

When I came in for my interview, I rode in a very old elevator that was a bit scary.

    Advice to Management

Thank you for recognizing the staff and for the little things you do, that aren't so little to us. Keep up the great work, Emerson is a great resource to the surrounding communities because of you.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Emerson Hospital in June 2017.

    Interview

Applied online during the weekend and got a call first thing Monday morning for an interview. Had an interview that week. This was a two part process, first with HR and then with the manager and crew of the department I was looking to work in. Although the second portion being a group interview was a little bit intimidating, I felt that everyone was still very pleasant. I was offered the position approximately one week later.
