Emory Healthcare – Why Work For Us?

For more than 150 years, Emory Healthcare has been part of the bedrock of the Atlanta community and a global leader in health care innovation and delivery. From Dr. Crawford Long's groundbreaking use of anesthesia in surgery to our award-winning advancements in the treatment of Ebola, when you join Emory Healthcare, you are joining an organization that doesn't just deliver great care, we're transforming the face of health care while never losing sight of the people who make it possible.

That’s the Emory difference.

A global leader dedicated to the health of our community

With more than 200 neighborhood locations and seven hospitals throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area, you can work for a global leader in health care delivery and discovery from the comfort (and short commute time) of your own community. We are:

  • The only health care system in Georgia with three Magnet-designated facilities: Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital, Emory University Hospital and Emory University Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital.
  • Home to the only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center in Georgia: Winship Cancer Institute.
  • Home to the hospitals ranked as the #1 and #2 hospitals in Georgia by U.S. News & World Report: Emory University Hospital and Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital.
  • The global leader in robot-assisted and minimally invasive surgery.
  • A founding partner of the Georgia Research Alliance.
  • A national leader in maternal and neonatal health, infectious disease research and treatment, drug development, neurosciences, critical care medicine, cardiology and cardiothoracic medicine, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and more.
  • Partners to the Emory University Woodruff Health Sciences Center, with connections between the School of Medicine, School of Nursing and School of Public Health, including their programs for physician assistants, physical therapy and nurse practitioners.

Our people are global, too.

We take pride in our roles as a global leader in health care delivery and discovery and in promoting the health of our community. With more than 17,000 employees and approximately 2,000 physicians, Emory Healthcare proudly reflects the communities we serve.

To achieve our vision of discovery, innovation and compassionate, patient-focused care, we are dedicated to fostering a culture and healing environment that embraces diversity and inclusion and is sensitive to the needs and experiences of our patients, families and employees. The four pillars of our commitment to diversity and inclusion are:

  • Respect and Dignity
  • Inclusion
  • Collaboration
  • Celebration

Life doesn't stop when you walk through our doors.

At Emory Healthcare, we are committed to providing our employees the  best place to work, learn and grow.  We value their contributions and believe that by creating an inspiring work environment for individuals and teams, we enable them to be their best for themselves, for our patients and for each other.

Our people go above and beyond to provide the best care to the families who depend on us, which is why we are proud that  our benefits package begins on day one of your new career at Emory Healthcare.

We care about your health.

At Emory Healthcare, employees can choose between two flexible medical plans, two dental plans and a vision plan, including employee discounts to the Emory Eye Center. Even better, you're covered on your first day as an Emory Healthcare employee - no waiting for 30 days to see your physician.

We also are proud of our evidence-based employee wellness program, Healthy Emory. Healthy Emory focuses on programs and resources to support employees goals related to nutrition, activity and emotional health and stress management. By offering classes, an online platform and mobile app, a nutrition labeling program called Better Choices, and fitness opportunities such as walking trails and discounts to local gyms, Healthy Emory is designed for you and your family.

We care about your future

As the leading academic health system in Georgia, we value the importance of lifelong learning. And, just as we are relentless in advancing medical discoveries, we also value the importance in advancing your career and reaching your personal and professional dreams.

That's why Emory Healthcare is proud to offer:

  • A robust education reimbursement plan to enable employees to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees.
  • A nationally recognized nurse residency program to turn new nursing graduates into expert nursing professionals in one of the country's most respected health care systems.

This last year, we celebrated more than 2,000 employees who achieved service milestones from 5 - 50 years of service at Emory Healthcare. As much as we love the dedication of our employees, we also want to make sure they are positioned well for retirement.

We offer the following retirement resources:

  • Up to a 6% employer retirement contribution after the first year of eligible service. After ten years, the employer contribution increases up to 7%.
  • Eligible employees receive a 2% employer contribution, even in the employee's first year and regardless of whether or not they contribute to their retirement account themselves
  • Access to three retirement vendors where employees can concentrate their retirement savings with one vendor, or distribute their retirement across multiplle vendors to build their portfolio.
  • An annual Total Rewards statement with financial modeling to help employees optimize their retirement planning.
  • Multiple retirement and investing seminars, workshops and a semi-annual, half-day retreat to help those planning to retire to navigate the waters of Medicare, Social Security and other post-retirement considerations.

We care about your family.

We want our employees to be successful at work and at home. That's why we offer a number of benefits to support your work/life success.

  • Our Bright Horizons emergency care program offers employees access to center-based or home-based back-up care for children or adults. Whether it's a child care emergency or your elderly parent who needs extra support, Bright Horizons is available to employees at a deeply subsidized amount.
  • Our semi-annual baby showers, Bundles of Joy, offer new parents information and resources to help welcome the little one home. From identifying child care to modifying your benefits plans to adapting to your new family budget, our experts help new parents with the transition.

And, as the sports medicine provider to the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Dream and the Braves, employees have access to a number of discounted tickets and promotions!

We care about your peace of mind.

Heart. Soul. Expertise.

That's what defines an Emory nurse.

Emory Healthcare is proud to be the only health system in Georgia with three Magnet-recognized hospitals: Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital, Emory University Hospital and Emory University Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital.

But, our Magnet designations aren't just about the kudos. Magnet reflects our commitment and values as a health care system, and in the integral leadership role nurses have in our organization.

At Emory, our nursing culture is just a little bit different. Thanks to our partnership with the Emory University School of Nursing, we work shoulder-to-shoulder with our academic partners to elevate the practice of nursing, advance nursing research and train the nursing leaders of tomorrow.

As we plan for the future of nursing, we also are empowering our nurses to be leaders within our organizations in defining value, supporting population health and guiding health care accountability.

But most importantly, we believe in the joy of practice. When you become an Emory nurse, you join a family of like-minded professionals who will support you, laugh and cry with you, cheer on your successes and collaborate with you to improve the way we care for those who depend on us.

Emory Healthcare is one of the largest employers in Georgia and provides some of the most comprehensive care for some of the most medically complex patients.

Our network includes:

  • 7 hospitals
  • 116 primary care locations
  • 306 specialty care locations
  • 17,000 employees
  • 2,200 physicians
  • 700 advanced practice providers
  • Nearly 7,000 nursing professionals
  • More than 2,000 licensed hospital beds

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Emory Healthcare (Atlanta, GA) in January 2019.

    Interview

I was interviewed by a panel of nurses. They all asked me different questions from my goals in five years, qualifications and different scenarios and how I would handle them. The whole hiring process took about a month. Interview, background check, physical, blood test, urine test for drug, it’s a lot of steps to take before you actually get to orientation. But it all makes sense and worth it!
