TechCrunch: Marketo Co-Founder raises 22M Series B -> ABM "bigger" than marketing automation
Engagio Launches the Clear and Complete Guide to Account Based Sales Development -
At Engagio we are united by a common vision of marketing that uses data and analytics to be more intelligent and relevant.
We believe it is important that Engagio be a place where employees enjoy working and where happiness and positivity thrives (and politics and negativity are shunned).
We believe people do the best work when they have the freedom to figure out their own tactics, combined with radical transparency and alignment on strategy and objectives.
We believe the best workplace perk is great colleagues who focus on excellence and execution, on continuous testing and learning, and on helping each other to be great.
A friendly and positive team that gives you the freedom to excel in your work and your career.
Happiness and Positivity
Have fun and express gratitude. We believe you should have a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction in your work. Celebrate successes while staying humble and always share the credit because we win as a team.
Excellence and Execution
We stuff done, and getting it done well. We will continue to see success by taking ownership, holding each other accountable and moving fast. A Grade A execution of a Grade B plan beats the inverse. Do things correctly today to move faster tomorrow.
Freedom and Transparency
We don’t have a laundry list of rules. In fact, we have one overarching rule: using good judgment. When you give people all information and don’t hold anything back (transparency), you can trust them to use good judgment when making decisions (freedom). Freedom requires transparency.
Amazing coworkers, flexible work, a true learning environment, unlimited paid vacation, sit-stand desks, free gym membership at Equinox, and free Philz coffee!
We believe in giving back, donating 1 percent of employee time, 1 percent of company revenue, and 1 percent of our product to worthy causes.
We raised $32M in funding from great VCs including FirstMark Capital, First Round Capital, Norwest Venture Partners, and Storm Ventures.
Our founders have proven track records, including Jon Miller, co-founder of Marketo (NASDAQ:MKTO), and Brian Babcock, formerly at Platfora.

I worked at Engagio full-time (Less than a year)
This is an interesting review to write, given that both myself and Engagio took a chance on putting me in a key growth role where the world was very much unknown. Engagio was extremely transparent about this from the interview all the way to the offer. For a number of reasons (both controllable and uncontrollable) it didn't quite work out for either of us, but the level of professionalism, transparency, and empathy for the situation was unparalleled in my years of experience in the Silicon Valley. This is a company full of smart, passionate executives that want to build something special for the long haul. Although I am no longer there and the experience in the trenches wasn't quite how I would have drawn it up when I accepted the original offer, this is a company I will root for moving forward and that is on their way to something great.
I enjoyed working at Engagio. The team is incredible with everyone willing to consistently go above and beyond to support each other and our customers. The platform is strong and getting better with every release. The culture is one of performance, accountability, and respect. The culture is very intentional and deliberately fostered through big and small actions, ranging from regular employee feedback surveys, weekly all hands, fun events, 1:1's and more.
Not really a con, but be aware that this is a startup that is creating a new market space. The marketing technology space is "busy" and it will take a lot of work to stand out from the crowd.
Advice to Management
Continue the very deliberate practice of building the culture and open, transparent communication.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Engagio (San Mateo, CA) in February 2018.
The process started with a call with their VP of Sales, who is direct with a clear vision about the future of the sales team there. After getting insights on the company and giving more depth on my background, we decided to meet in person.
The second round was a 3-hour meeting at their offices with the VP of Sales and members of the sales team. Overall, I enjoyed the in-person interview, because of the focus was more of a two-way conversation than how well I can answer a list of pre-made questions.
In the end, I did not get an offer, however, the interview experience was positive, and would welcome speaking to them again for future opportunities.
