I worked at Engagio full-time (Less than a year)
This is an interesting review to write, given that both myself and Engagio took a chance on putting me in a key growth role where the world was very much unknown. Engagio was extremely transparent about this from the interview all the way to the offer. For a number of reasons (both controllable and uncontrollable) it didn't quite work out for either of us, but the level of professionalism, transparency, and empathy for the situation was unparalleled in my years of experience in the Silicon Valley. This is a company full of smart, passionate executives that want to build something special for the long haul. Although I am no longer there and the experience in the trenches wasn't quite how I would have drawn it up when I accepted the original offer, this is a company I will root for moving forward and that is on their way to something great.
I enjoyed working at Engagio. The team is incredible with everyone willing to consistently go above and beyond to support each other and our customers. The platform is strong and getting better with every release. The culture is one of performance, accountability, and respect. The culture is very intentional and deliberately fostered through big and small actions, ranging from regular employee feedback surveys, weekly all hands, fun events, 1:1's and more.
Not really a con, but be aware that this is a startup that is creating a new market space. The marketing technology space is "busy" and it will take a lot of work to stand out from the crowd.
Advice to Management
Continue the very deliberate practice of building the culture and open, transparent communication.
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Engagio in June 2016.
Engagio does not just want to make sure you are a good fit for them, but that they are the right fit for you. There are going to be layers to the interview process; first you will meet one of the Account Executives, then you will meet their Director of Sales and, if all goes well, you will meet the CEO Jon Miller. This is a great because you know where you are in their evaluation process, you get to meet employees across all levels and get to hear a variety of opinions and suggestions along the way.
Everyone at Engagio has the experience, the knowledge and the connections to make this the next billion dollar company. They are bursting into a near untapped space with enormous potential for growth. Although I eventually removed myself from their decision making process, I will have no hesitations to reach back out in the future when the timing is right. I feel the sales team is one that would aggressively challenge me to always do better than I did the previous day and would ultimately teach me to be an even better sales person.
