    Gartner analyst sees limit to tech's ability to fix hiring bias

    An approach that vendors are taking to fight hiring bias is using technologies that anonymize applicants. Names are replaced by initials, photographs are removed and gender-specific pronouns are erased. These approaches help but don't fix the problem, a Gartner analyst said.

Hiring For Good  

Entelo’s Hiring For Good program is our way of giving back to the community that has helped our business thrive. We partner with two world-class non-profits, CodeEd and The Stride Center.

For each new hire made with Entelo, we donate one year’s worth of coding instruction to a young woman in the  CodeEd program. 
 
CodeEd is a non-profit that teaches computer science to girls in underserved communities, beginning in middle school. They partner with schools and programs that serve low-income girls and provide them with volunteer teachers, computer science course offerings, and computers to work with.

For each new hire made with Entelo, we sponsor one certification test for a student at  The Stride Center.
 
The Stride Center is a non-profit that empowers individuals and communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. The organization harnesses the power of technology to help men, women, and families who face barriers to employment attain self-sufficiency.

    I have been working at Entelo full-time

    Pros

    Joining Entelo was one of the smartest decisions I’ve made in my adult life. Not only are the people smart, compassionate, hardworking and fun -- the company is doing something really cool. I’ve worked at plenty of companies in the recruiting technology space and none are as cutting-edge as Entelo. The magnitude of the data we collect and the way we are changing how companies hire is groundbreaking. I’m thrilled to be part of the team bringing it to market.

    There are plenty more, but the biggest pros for me personally are: emotionally intelligent leadership & co-workers, free lunch & snacks, a professional development stipend you can spend as you see fit, great downtown SF location, competitive pay and a product that is actually moving the needle, not just talking the talk.

    Cons

    This is a fast-paced environment and team members who are scrappy, creative and nimble succeed. If you are someone who prefers a slower pace or are used to wearing just one hat; this environment may be too busy.

    This is also not a work from home culture, and leadership is transparent about that. We all have busy lives and schedules are certainly flexible when needed, but unlike other startups I’ve worked for, everyone comes in on Fridays.

    Advice to Management

    I appreciate how much respect I have here. As an individual contributor, I know my ideas are valued and the leadership team wants me to succeed. Keep hiring smart people and getting out of their way and keep communicating! The level of transparency here is incredible and I hope we can keep it as we grow.

    I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Entelo (San Francisco, CA) in December 2016.

    Interview

    The interview process was very fluid. I came onsite to meet with the immediate team and a stakeholder for the first interview. The second interview I met with a few more stakeholders. Final round was with the CEO. The talent team was very responsive with communication and transparency.
