I worked at Environment America full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked as a fellow and advocate for Environment America. I got great training from other advocates and campaigners who had been working on environmental issues for 5-10 years, and was able to take on more responsibility each year. I was able to educate the public on environmental issues, meet with legislators to advocate for better environmental policies on behalf of our members, and meet with our members to talk about the issues. Also built other skills that have been helpful in my career: fundraising for my campaigns, hiring interns and staff, managing a budget.

    Cons

Not really a negative for me, but may not work for some people: You can have a lot of responsibility at a young age, which can mean a lot of work.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Environment America in September 2014.

    Interview

Quick response after resume submission. Immediately interview was set up. We had a 30 minute phone interview. Not tough, just basic questions trying to assess my character and what I wanted to get out of the internship. Friendly and conversational.

    Negotiation

A few follow up emails and worked together to decide on hours and start and end date. Given the position without a hitch.
