Equity Trust Mission Statement and Core Values

Our Mission Statement

To help investors make tax-free profits through education, innovation, and a commitment to understanding their individual needs.

Our core values were created with both our clients and our employees in mind.  These ideas grew into a structure to make it easy for our clients to prosper and our employees to support our mission.

We are Innovators

We value creativity and forward thinking. The spirit of innovation allows us to constantly improve ourselves and our relationship with our clients. New ideas enable us to solve problems, improve our services, and bring ourselves closer to our clients. Our innovation drives everything from corporate change to our constant improvement of daily tasks.

Knowledge is the Foundation of our Success

We believe that education is the cornerstone of our success. We do not have factories, machines, or inventory . . . knowledge is our product. By providing education to our clients, we can open their minds to the endless possibilities that are available to them; creating a bond that no competitor can break.

The Client is our Ultimate Boss

From the CEO to our part time employees, everyone answers to our clients. Each client has the ability to fire all of us by simply choosing to use one of our competitors. We understand and acknowledge the fact we must stay close to our clients. It is critical that we understand their needs. We are client-oriented and have a caring, patient, and positive attitude towards our clients. They give us our direction and the opportunity to succeed.

We Make it Happen

We have a "get it done" attitude. We are passionate about seizing opportunities in every aspect of our business. Our company's foundation was built on drive and hard work. We are committed to keeping our foundation strong.

We Take Pride in Ourselves, Work, and Company

The foundation of quality is pride in ourselves and the work that we perform. We are driven by more than a paycheck. We strive to do things right because we believe that our work serves a critical role in the financial well being of our clients.

We Have Fun at What We Do

We constantly find ways to brighten our days, enlighten our minds, and support each other in what we do. We are positive, optimistic and enjoy our work environment. We believe that a smile and positive attitude are the best indicators of a healthy and harmonious atmosphere.

Reliability is our Ultimate Commitment

We understand that our clients depend on us and that reliability is our most important promise. Our clients can count on us. We are committed to their success and have a responsibility to ensure we are there for them.

We are All on the Same Team

We ensure success through building lasting relationships with our clients and each other. We have established an environment where teamwork and collaboration are encouraged and celebrated. We believe that a partnership with our clients is created in every transaction.

Welcome Home

Equity Trust Company is more than a business . . .we are a family. We share the same goals, have the same values, and have long-term commitments with one another. We are here for each other in times of need and celebration.

This past year, Equity Trust Company paired with BVU (Business Volunteers Unlimited), the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, an organization that helps engage employees in community service. As a member, BVU is assisting us in connecting with a variety of volunteer opportunities; including hands on volunteer projects for groups and individuals, pro-bono skills-based consulting, and nonprofit board and committee roles. Equity Trust has put together a committee of 15-20 employees that organizes and communicates all community outreach projects. Prior to joining BVU and establishing a committee, our Ambassador of Culture was taking on the responsibility of arranging all of our community efforts. Equity Trust had so many organizations and events on our plate that we decided to expand our efforts to a larger spectrum.

Some of our community efforts in the past have included: Adopt a Soldier, Elyria Relay for Life, Boys and Girls Club, Cleveland School Supply Drive, Junior Achievement, Toys for Tots, Canned Food Drive, Hurricane Sandy Victim Relief, Christmas Toy Drive, Families of South Africa Relief, and our annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive with St. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church. This past year we had 90+ employees bake over 120 turkeys to donate for Thanksgiving.

    Pros

You will meet and work with some of the best people. My team has some of the nicest, smartest, most hardworking people I've ever worked with. They've made me better at my job!
If you take the time to learn about alternative investing and IRAs, you will be so much better at your job - as well knowing more about saving for retirement.

    Cons

If you like working at company where your job never changes, this not the place for you. I've had the details of my position many times and I like it, but that might make other people crazy.
If you do not want to learn on your own time, this is also not the job for you. I've learned about IRAs, investing, alternatives, accounting, process improvement, business writing, and many other subjects outside of work in order to keep up with the demands of the various positions I've held here. I was not formally asked to do this by my boss - doing this was my own choice. That said, it's made me better at my job and increased my job satisfaction every time I've done this.

    Advice to Management

Be more aware some people can't deal with the details of their position radically changing. Most people know what they're good at and what kind of job suits them best and that's what motivates them to apply for a particular position. This doesn't make them bad at their job or problem employees when they are upset about a major change that rewrites the job they signed on to do with the implication of 'if you don't like it, there's the door'.

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Equity Trust Company (Westlake, OH) in April 2014.

    Interview

Sat in the lobby for a few minutes reading the Wall Street Journal before the Senior Recruiter took me to a meeting room. The interview was a group interview with two different rounds. It was relatively straight forward. I was asked a bit about my background, experience, and goals/expectations with my career path. Second round of the interview was more focused on leadership qualities and experience.
