I worked at Erie Community College part-time (More than 3 years)
Positive work environment with helpful coworkers and excellent library resources. Course objectives are clearly outlined, but professors have flexibility in class textbook choices, testing, grading, and day-to-day classroom activity.
I had to leave because I became disabled and the school lacks handicap accessibility. Automaic doors are few and inconveniently placed, "wheelchair accessible" bathrooms just mean there is one large stall, and the handicap parking lot has only one or two spots close enough to the building to help me. Also, although adjunct instructors carry a lot of teaching responsibility, they are not given fair pay and get no benefits. It is unlikely adjunts will ever be hired for full-time positions.
Advice to Management
Make the school TRULY accessible for the disabled. If adjuncts are good enough to teach heavy courseloads (I usually taught 4 courses per semester), pay them accordingly.
I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Erie Community College (Buffalo, ND).
Applied online and received a phone call to schedule an interview. Interviewed by 3 faculty/staff. Questions are mostly about my teaching experience, teaching philosophy. No unexpected or difficult questions. Interviewers were very friendly and nice.
