    Pros

An interesting language to work on. nice to have new skill to add for you next job. may attract more prospective employers.

    Cons

The management simply does not know how to promote Erlang. They just keep hanging on the WhatsApp story. Most prospective customers are actually far from impressed by scant of success stories. ESL is very slow to react to market changes. Except from bashing other newer languages, they have no idea what to do. It is not enough to say We have been doing this for decades. The quality of conferences are very subpar. It is honestly shocked to hear some guest presenter from a startup to blame on ORM and their own engineering failure on other languages; then preaches Erlang is a silver bullet. If you look at Scala you won't see this type of presentation in a paid conference. It is better to have less speaker than fillers like this.
Lots of The consultants are actually very junior.

    Advice to Management

You should have a hard look at your way of doing business. You won't have a market soon. Ejabberd, riak and rabbitmq are all being replaced/phased out. Lots of companies cant get their maiden erlang up for production. The difficulty of hiring qualified people and disappointed by ESL is killing the market. You wont have a market soon. You may be good engineers but you cant run a business
Please get a hang if community building. Erlang meetups all around are sad. Please quality control your conference.

    Software Engineer Interview

    Anonymous Employee in Kraków (Poland)

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Erlang Solutions (Kraków (Poland)) in January 2015.

    Interview

The interview was great because I was asked about the projects I worked on. Discussion was around the technical stuff. Having a conversation about them with my interviewer was a great experience. It was a completely two-sided conversation. Spoke about education: both under/post-graduate study. Spoke about experience: past projects. Then took the paper for the Erlang Foundation Certificate.
