I worked at Essence Photo & Video as a contractor (More than 10 years)
I shot for Essence for nearly 12 years and one of the reasons I stayed so long was because I always felt like I was being supported by the owners. Even when the economy wasn't doing so well they always kept me booked and the paychecks always arrived on time. It's a really great company for young and hungry photographers to get their footing in the industry.
photographers are responsible for for editing their own weddings. Some people prefer this but it really eats up a lot of time for no additional pay.
I applied through other source. I interviewed at Essence Photo & Video (Schaumburg, IL) in February 2010.
there was a teat to start out with that had basic photo questions. then i met with mike the owner very nice but blunt. Told me what to expect and that there was a lot he expects from the photographer if working for essence. what i learned its not as hard as he maid it out to be once i got through training with karen
none told me what i make and how to get raises and also made it clear what i was caped at unless pricing went up.
