Company Culture - Why work for us?
With just 3 employees, a fax machine and a bell that was rung every time a chair came down the conveyor belt, it was a humble start to what is now a 850+ team with showrooms in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.
Even though our scrappy days are behind us now, lots of things still haven't really changed. We still run around the office ringing a bell whenever we reach our sales goals. We’re also still based in sunny California (and our vibe is as laid back as that summer in ’96 when we first opened our doors). But most importantly, the core tenets we built our brands on have remained exactly the same since day one.
And our most important principle by far? Our people-first philosophy. We absolutely owe our continued success to an incredible group of talented people—individuals who bring equal parts skill, drive and passion to the table every day. Why else would we be known as the company that’s “super easy to work with?". It’s no wonder that more than 20 years later, we’re still going strong.
The Fastest Growing Seating Brand in the Industry
Born and bred in sunny California, Exemplis® was founded in 1996 on one simple principle: when it comes to our customers, instant gratification is never overrated. Our brands were created to give our customers what they want, how they want it, when they want it.
All our products are designed in California.
We aim to exceed customer expectations. "It's pretty simple. If we don't, we have work to do." says SitOnIt Seating's Quality Director. "We ensure continuous improvement with diligent, disciplined effort."
DESIGN & ENGINEERING
SitOnIt Seating's in-house design team defies the notion that engineers are strictly analytical and designers only artistic. "We've staffed a crew of creative engineers and structured designers," says John Phillips, Vice President of Engineering. "We've forged a symbiotic relationship between the two domains, much like the human body and the ergonomic chair that supports it."
PERFECTLY DESIGNED BY YOU
SitOnIt Seating designs and manufactures traditional, transitional and contemporary seating with a smart design process geared toward manufacturing efficiency. That means we can custom make your chair to your specifications at an affordable price.
Our nimble size and lean manufacturing operation mean speed in sourcing, warehousing, assembly, and logistics that other manufacturers just can't match. This helps us cut lead time, sync orders to ship dates, avoid redundant and off-schedule shipments, making us the fastest in the industry.
We are committed to maintaining high social principles, whether it’s protecting the health and safety of our employees or maximizing the positive impact we make on the communities around us.
How We Give Back
We strive to make a positive impact on the communities. We're proud to partner with Toys For Tots every year and regularly donate our chairs to local schools, charities and organizations.
We’re proud of how hard we work to minimize our impact on the environment. Our lean manufacturing practices allow us to conserve resources, eliminate waste efficiently and ultimately design responsible products that are durable and long-lasting.
Our employees are our most important asset. From ensuring accident prevention to complying with legislated health and safety requirements, we strive to eliminate all forseeable hazards to ensure a safe working environment for all.
Supply Chain Transparency
We take very seriously all efforts to end forced labor, whether in the form of prison labor, indentured labor, bonded labor, human trafficking or otherwise. In accordance with The California Transparency in Supply Chains Act of 2010, we require all our suppliers to maintain a strict “employment is voluntary” policy with their workers.
We understand the importance of credibility and trustworthiness to our success as a business. All officers and employees are expected to conduct their business affairs in accordance with all applicable laws of the United States and observe the highest standards of business ethics; acting with integrity while considering the impact of their decisions on our stakeholders, with whom we will communicate openly and effectively.
Why Work at Exemplis?
We offer growth, learning and development across all departments and positions
I have been working at Exemplis full-time (Less than a year)
This company is an amazing company. There is ALOT of opportunities for growth. I can see from past reviews about people being let go for no reasons!?!? LIES...this company makes it very simple, come to work and work hard. Your hard work will be rewarded. We have a Book club coming and a fake assassination game happen last month. There is always some kind of food around...thank god for stairs. Lol but all in all it’s simple...a company can’t make money if people call out sick and don’t show up. Honestly the reviews had me hella nervous when I started. But take it from me...it’s a good company with great people. Once hired BE READY TO WORK!!! also when work is tough, the company got you covered. Occasionally will have happy hour at work. yes I said it.... you could have a beer at work!! BEST JOB EVER!!
Long hours sometimes. Depending on where you sit, might be a long walk to the bathroom. Depending on what department you’re in a can be a little clicky....parking from time to time can be a nightmare. So bring your lunch if you can help it.
Advice to Management
Keep up the good work. Thank you for making new hires feel comfortable and at home.
I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Exemplis (Buena Park, CA) in February 2017.
The interview took 2 visits. They probably could've done it in one. The first one was almost nothing but purely a meet and greet with hiring manager. The second interview was the plant tour and technical question side. The best thing about the interview was the internal recruiter, Heather Carlino. She was very responsive and made you feel important. She really went out of her way to answer any questions and negotiate on your behalf
