    I have been working at FRCH Design full-time

    Pros

    -Work Hard/Play Hard mentality is a pro and a con.
    -High quality of work in Retail and Hospitality industries
    -Great pool of talent, especially in Interior Design and Graphic Design disciplines
    -Good benefits, salary OK
    -promote work life balance
    -Firm culture a major plus. Social events planned throughout the year focus on employees and try to offset the work hard aspect of the job. No other firm I've worked in has this good a firm culture, as casual an environment, and positive a general daily attitude in the office.

    Cons

    -Work Hard/Play Hard mentality is a pro and a con.
    -Firm overall trajectory seems to have lost its way in certain respects. Focus on international work to get through recession didn't transition very well after traditional work pattern returned.
    -Much $ and attention has been spent on slow-to-start new office locations.
    -Studio leadership is hit and miss. Most are quite good and care about their team. mixed use/big box studios under a lot of pressure to support architecture program.
    -Partners retiring in next 5-8 years, unsure of firm direction.
    -Communication is strong on surface but often lacks convincing depth/accuracy.
    -Employment structure/titles/promotion makes it hard to understand personal path, especially for younger employees. System being overhauled according to HR and leadership
    -Interior Design firm at its heart. Architecture is second. 2/3 of firm work is not oriented toward ground-up architecture.

    Advice to Management

    -Implement new review and employment structure immediately
    -Begin communicating to employees how firm we all love will deal with evolution once critical leadership staff retire in coming years.
    -Take client feedback seriously. Share feedback with teams. "no communication must mean things are OK" isn't a winning formula.
    -Underbidding work to win the RFP with the hope to add work later seems difficult to understand for younger workers, leads to frustration on those doing the work, that they are fighting a losing battle.

    Application

    I applied in-person. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at FRCH Design (Cincinnati, OH).

    Interview

    Met with 3 VPs in a small meeting room who fanned through my design portfolio, gave a few bits of constructive criticism, then quickly moved on to questions. They were relatively easy to talk to. I'm a natural people-pleaser, so keeping them happy was an easy task.

    They gave an offer that was reasonable, so I didn't think it was necessary to negotiate.
