I have been working at Fairfax County Public Schools full-time (Less than a year)
--Great place to teach, but depends on individual school's leadership/management
--Lots of resources
--Compensation is not competitive with surrounding districts
--Teachers don't get paid over the summer, so saving at least $1000/paycheck during the year is difficult (first paycheck during the school year is at the end of September, last paycheck of the school year is end of June)
--Can be challenging to enter the district as an experienced teacher: You need to first complete many PDs or Modules by the county, even if you have experience in that topic/content area
Advice to Management
Listen to your teachers and staff; advocate for us for better compensation; be open to new ideas from staff and not just do things "The Fairfax County Way"
I applied online. I interviewed at Fairfax County Public Schools.
First you go through an online application, which includes a resume and working styles survey. Your references have to submit a survey/reference on your behalf. Then you interview with individual schools/principals. Finally, you need to submit all your paperwork/documentation, and 2 letters of recommendation from your references.
