Mission: Family Video and our brands under the Family Video umbrella strive to be our customer's number one choice in entertainment, food, health and fitness and real estate
I worked at Family Video full-time (More than 5 years)
-Usually work with good people
-Access to new movies prior to official street date
-Regular customers can be a BLAST
-Concerns always addressed eventually
-I really did learn a great deal about running a business and understanding what motivates certain employees
-I was lucky enough to work under 2 outstanding district managers who did care deeply about my team and I.
-Management passed the district level (but also sometimes the district level) is atrocious
-Old school marketing in a field that depends on technology
-Ridiculous workload with unreasonable timelines
-Most promotions/raises seem like a seniority based thing. Where as the newer employees working their tails off don't see anything. I lost a lot of amazing employees because of that.
Advice to Management
Utilize what social media has to offer to grow your business. Family Video could do more to get their name out there, other than word of mouth. Store managers need to be given more resources to have an opportunity to be successful. And there needs to be more accountability at every level. Respect the ones at the front lines (part time associates). Give raises when they are earned, not based on seniority.
Open interview day, I had applied a week previously so they had my app already. Sat down with a store manager, asked basic questions about attitude, customer service, moral situations. He then gave me a timed aptitude test. I passed and sat down for a second interview with a district manager, talked about pay and when I could start training. Took a little over an hour all together. No drug test or background check.
