    Claims Representative Interview

    Average Interview
    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Federated Insurance (North Richland Hills, TX) in Feb 2021

    Interview

The interview process took about a month.

    Day 1: Applied online
Day 3: Received email from the regional manager requesting a 15-minute phone/video screen.
Day 7: Did the Zoom video/phone screen. Everything went well and she advised that she'd send background/credit check authorization via email as well as some IQ test.
Day 8: Completed background/credit check auth. and the IQ test.
Day 10: Received email/call from the regional manager requesting a 1.5-hour Zoom interview.
Day 16: Completed interview. The regional manager appears to really like my answers and my personal/education/professional background. She requested that I do an in-person job shadow and set-up a final interview with the VP of the claims dept in two weeks.
Day 20: Received package in the mail explaining the benefits plus more information on Federated Insurance.
Day 25: Did the in-person job all-day job shadow. There were several 1-hour "meetings" with other claims reps and supervisors who were told me a bit more in detail about the day-to-day activities. They took me out to lunch nearby. By this point, I realized that this job is a perfect fit for me!
Day 28: Completed the in-person interview with the VP of claims. This really wasn't an interview, he just asked some questions off the top of his head since he just had my resume in front of him. He asked both personal questions about me, nothing too personal though. He of course also asked other standard interview questions, however, the majority of the time was just spent talking about my take on life and really wanting to get to know me personally.
Day 30: Received call from the regional manager advising of a job offer. Accepted on the call.

Tips: After the interviews, job shadow and even receiving the benefits package, I was sure to follow up with a thank you via email. Also, I was sure to respond very promptly to all emails the manager sent me.

I set the interview process difficulty as average because, after the initial phone screening, I think that there was something that the manager really liked about me. I felt that I created a good relationship with her and had passionate answers to her questions. I'm sure that there were others who applied that were more qualified, but I think I was the favorite from the initial phone screening. It would have been exceedingly difficult if I weren't the favorite.

Also, the manager did request written interview questions as well and did do a three-person reference check.

I didn't bother negotiating pay/benefits as the offer was truly exceptional!
    Interview

I won't discuss specific questions they asked, but they didn't throw any curveball-type questions.
