I worked at First BanCorp (puerto Rico) as an intern

The company is well organized. Main service location has on-site cafeteria and parking. Modern facilities and equipment. HR is responsive and well organized.

Too many bad apples with no process to improve them or move them. Different departments do not work as well together as they should. Typical government labor regulations in PR that allow limited flexibility (not FirstBank's fault).

    Advice to Management

Engage managers to quickly identify high achievers to help put them on a fast track. Encourage opportunities outside current departments. Create more effective mechanisms to remove nonperforming employees.

I applied through college or university. The process took 2+ weeks. I interviewed at First BanCorp (puerto Rico) (Las Piedras, PR) in January 2015.

This was for a spring semester internship but applicants weren't contacted until mid-January which made effective planning difficult for the semester. HR staff was great once the process started. I was in the end disappointed with my assigned role, it was very basic (MBA candidate) and offered no challenge or true learning opportunities.
