I worked at FirstLook and MAX Systems full-time (More than 3 years)
As a Customer Facing employee, I sharpened my skills on product capabilities and road maps. Incredible experience!
I loved FirstLook and MAX up to the end.
The product relies on many questionable 'back doors' to quietly scrape automotive manufacturer systems(gm, cjd, bmw, mb, etc) If this access is suddenly detected and cut off.. No usable product and lots of angry customers..
From what we hear on the front lines, mgmt wants to sell ASAP before the access is cut off from automotive websites. This could happen quickly just like we lost the cars.com data. Very bad situation.
Management is very transparent about wanting to sell company due to pressures from competition like vAuto. It made me very sad as an employee with no stake in the organization to hear this talk.
Advice to Management
Make seeing the company a lower priority than running it well.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at FirstLook and MAX Systems (Dallas, TX) in November 2014.
A recruiter working with them contacted me and conducted initial phone interview. Then I had a phone interview with the hiring manager, In-Person interview with the hiring manager, and the final phase was an online demo of any product (to understand your demo skills) to the hiring manager, operations manager, and CEO. I also had an offer from another company so I asked to move the demo portion up and the company was flexible with me. The in-person interview was more of a conversation and them explaining the direction of the company.
Yes I was able to negotiate. It was fairly easy, within 1 day and they agreed to my terms.
