I worked at Firstborn full-time (More than 3 years)
Firstborn is filled with talented, smart, funny, supportive and compassionate people that genuinely care about one another and their work. As a result, there’s strong collaboration across teams and it’s a really fun work environment. There’s a solid mix of diverse clients and interesting projects, and the company’s focus on craft and emerging tech means that employees are always encouraged to learn new skills, take risks and challenge the status quo. The benefits package is also incredible.
Like most agencies, Firstborn has to work with clients that want more for less and they say they want to be innovative, but they are actually extremely risk-averse. This song-and-dance can be incredibly frustrating, especially when good work is left on the cutting room floor.
Advice to Management
Continue to be transparent to the agency and proactively invest in the professional development of your talent.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took a week. I interviewed at Firstborn (New York, NY) in September 2015.
I was referred to the company through a friend who mentioned a possible opening. Was contacted by the Team Development Director who had me come in the following week. He was very cool and the whole process was casual. It was clear that the company was looking for someone with more experience in development and interactive media, but we still had a great chat of everything from the advertising industry to sports and music. Overall a very positive experience even though it wasn't a fit.
