Cramps. Backache. Dizziness. Nausea. Insomnia. You probably recognise these as menstruation symptoms - and the list does not end there. According to Deloitte.’s Women @ Work 2023 research, over 40% of women who report experiencing health challenges related to menstruation say they work through the pain and discomfort. Nearly 1 in 5 (19%) say they have taken time off for symptoms related to menstruation but did not disclose the real reason why – and a small number (7%) report that they disclosed the reason but believe that doing so adversely impacted their career. And that’s just not fair. 🫶 At Flo Health Inc. we are building a better future for female health, for all of us working at Flo included. We want to reduce the barriers & stigma which surrounds female health at workplaces. We want to make sure that women and people who have periods can openly and shamelessly take time off when things get painful, uncomfortable, unbearable. Our female health policy has been created to encourage everyone at Flo to be open about their experiences (if they want to be) and take the necessary time to care for themselves if they experience symptoms associated with the menstrual cycle that limit their productivity. If you are not in an environment where you feel comfortable talking about female health, remember – it’s not your job to make sure that your colleagues don’t feel weird about periods, it’s not your job to educate on the amount of pain that can be felt.

We have said many times that female health has long been overlooked, understudied, and underfunded, compromising the amount of health information available to women and people who have periods, as well as the quality of health care they receive. And we are working to change that. Recently, Flo Health Inc.’s science team had their paper on the role of Flo in improving knowledge and health among its users published in JMIR Publications, a multidisciplinary journal that focuses on advances in health tech. 🔬Key findings include: - The vast majority of our users reported improvements in menstrual cycle (89%) and pregnancy (85%) knowledge from using Flo. When we dug a little deeper, we found that users were better informed about everything from their cycle regularity to which pregnancy symptoms require medical attention. - Most of Flo users (73.5%) who used the app to track their pregnancy believe that Flo helped them get pregnant! - The key components of the app that helped users improve their knowledge and health are the predictions about periods, fertile days, and ovulation, as well as symptom tracking. Meanwhile, reading articles and watching videos helped users learn more about pregnancy. - The strongest improvements in knowledge and health were observed in Premium, frequent, and long-term users! Our study provides valuable insights into the role of Flo in improving the knowledge, health, and well-being of women and people who menstruate.
