Mission: Be the world leader in partnering with our Clients to optimize their complex distribution operations.
Today’s customer occupies a new power position. They want the best product at the most convenient location and the lowest price. And they expect delivery the next day—if not today. Loyalty is no longer dictated by brand, but by the type of service you can provide. Fall short just once and your customer may be gone.
Competing in this landscape comes down to the strength and execution of your distribution strategy. No longer viewed as a cost of doing business, distribution becomes a focal point for business growth—your ultimate competitive advantage. But it’s a difficult problem to solve. It takes optimizing numerous complex, interrelated factors – like where to locate fulfillment centers and inventory, when to add capacity, how to optimize transportation – to get the greatest return for the business. These can be “bet the business” type decisions since the consequences will impact the business for years to come. And even harder than choosing the right path, is getting all the stakeholders to support it.
At Fortna, we help the world’s biggest brands transform their distribution operations into a competitive advantage. We can help you map the flow of goods, engineer custom distribution operations, select the right equipment, and take your operations to a higher level. By partnering with Fortna our clients are better able to make and keep bold promises to their customers.
When ASICS America clocked a healthy 20% surge in revenue for its athletic shoes and apparel, company leadership wanted to capitalize on the brand’s momentum. Fortna mapped out a growth strategy, which included the design and construction of a highly efficient 520,000 square-foot distribution facility. The result: ASICS was quickly able to double its product output and keep its financial growth racing ahead.
MSC Industrial Supply Co. had a winning idea to improve customer satisfaction: provide next day delivery and offer the latest cut-off time for busy companies to order any of its more than 600,000 stocked products. Fortna studied MSC’s complex warehouse operations and found an innovative way to speed up order cycles without overhauling its operations. The result: happier customers and the largest cost savings initiative in MSC Industrial’s history.
When O’Reilly Auto Parts acquired its largest competitor, it needed to merge both companies’ distribution operations and to deliver immediate financial results. Fortna partnered with O’Reilly to shift the integration into overdrive. The result: an expertly engineered 19-facility distribution network able to serve a combined 3,800 stores with 120,000 SKUs.
Your distribution operations are a focal point for growth and competitive advantage. But it can be hard to know the best levers to pull to create change. We start by partnering with you to understand what’s at stake for your business. Then we help you optimize all the interrelated factors to get to the best answer for your unique operations. And to drive real business results, you’ll need a design that is custom-developed to your strategy, your products and your order profiles, not based on a “template” or on a single company’s technology-centric view of the world.
We know that distribution design decisions will affect the entire company and that you’ll need broad buy-in to ensure a successful implementation. So we involve an expanded set of stakeholders from the beginning – and we engage them throughout the process. We know that it takes a comprehensive approach to design the best solution, but also to get broad alignment and commitment to the strategy.
You can hire firms to do your strategy project. And others to do your design/build. But Fortna is not just another consulting firm; we’re implementers. We have designed and built hundreds of world-class distribution operations across the globe. Because we implement what we propose, we have a full set of experts on staff – not just engineers (in disciplines like Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Structures) but also consultants (with expertise in Process Engineering, Labor Management, and Data Analysis) and software specialists, procurement specialists, construction experts, and more. And that means our strategies and our designs are better informed, more practical and implementable.
Our unique approach is demonstrated most clearly in our guarantee. When we sign off on a design, we’ll stand behind it with a performance guarantee that the solution will achieve the business results agreed upon. And you can hold us accountable to that promise.
We can do this because of the Fortna DC Design Suite™ platform. It helps our engineers analyze enormous amounts of data in great detail, to get to the best answers quickly and consistently.
Fortna is a partner committed to a relationship that delivers real, measurable enterprise value that extends for years beyond the conclusion of an individual project. Fortna’s unique model has propelled our growth that has significantly outpaced the industry.

Advice to Management
Keep doing what you are doing - continue to drive collaboration across functions.
The transparency provided to the organization is wonderful and allows employees at all levels to understand Company priorities and results.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Fortna (Reading, PA) in December 2013.
I had 3 phone interviews. Each with a member of my department and each were very casual. The interview process has changed since I was hired on and much more structured.
