I did not receive an interview; however, I was so disappointed with this company, I still wanted to include my experience. I applied for a job through LinkedIn. Instead of attaching my cover letter, I typed it out in the given box titled “message to hiring manager.” About two hours after submitting my application, I got an email questioning my motivation since the unnamed author of the email claimed I didn’t send a cover letter. (I did.) This person then proceeded to give me multiple reasons why I was unfit for the job. I have a Master’s degree in Latin American and Caribbean Studies and have worked in the Dominican Republic for years. Perhaps I wasn’t a perfect fit. But why would they take the time to give me such negative feedback on my resume if they didn’t take the time to look at my cover letter that I DID write?? Honestly, the name of this organization made me wary to begin with. It screams “white savior” complex. I should have listened to my gut and not applied. The nature of the rejection email I received speaks more to the toxic work culture they have created and not my personal or professional qualifications. Do better Free The Slaves. Oh, and think about a name change! Why didn’t you write a cover letter?
