I worked at Freightliner Custom Chassis full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very clean and efficient. Running Toyota's Truck Ooerating System leads to a near perfect distribution of labor in relation to an individual worker's tach time. Pay is union competitive without the union. Health insurance is affordable and has excellent coverage. Plenty of paid vacation time.

    Cons

Production is based on consumer need and some newer employees aren't very concerned with quality. Unfortunately, poor individual work reflects on the entire team of builders on each line and can negatively affect production needs. That, in turn, can lead to fewer annual hours worked and less money for everyone.

    Advice to Management

Implement quality control measures and hold every team member personally responsible for whatever work they produce.

    Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Freightliner Custom Chassis (Greenville, SC) in January 2013.

    Interview

Ask about work experience, and questions are job-related. No sense in misrepresenting your knowledge base, they prefer experience but will train a complete novice. So long as after a month of training, you can meet production rate, you will always have a job with FCCC.

    Interview Questions

    • Do you know how to use impact tools? Are you knowledgeable metric units of measurement? Are you mechanically inclined or process oriented?   1 Answer
    • Do you take pride in whatever job you are doing, or do you need to like the job in order to take pride in your work?   1 Answer
