GBH – Why Work With Us?

"GBH enriches people's lives through programs and services that educate, inspire, and entertain, fostering citizenship and culture, the joy of learning, and the power of diverse perspectives."

That mission continually drives us to develop robust programs and resources for the public.

We’re supporting vulnerable learners through K-12 initiatives that inspire curiosity and creative thinking. We're a trusted news organization that is driven by facts rather than factions. We're promoting science literacy so that people can make informed decisions about our changing world. We're championing the arts and giving the public access to both the greatest performers and emerging talent. And we're constantly innovating to ensure that our services are available and relevant to all.

Serving the public interest drives everything that we do, and every commitment that we make is to promote knowledge so that everyone can appreciate and engage with the world around them.

GBH makes a commitment to:

  • Foster an informed and active citizenry
  • Make knowledge and the creative life of the arts, sciences, and humanities available to the widest possible public
  • Reflect the diversity of our audience, inviting a sense of inclusion and a better understanding of each other
  • Improve, for all people, access to public media
  • Be a trusted partner to parents and educators, providing programs and services that promote the healthy development of children
  • Serve the individual not just as a spectator but as a participant, able and willing to learn new skills through our programs and services

As we reach out to an increasingly diverse America and interconnected world, our mission has never been more important. Public media is renowned as principled, enlightening, even visionary. But to have an impact, it must reach audiences where they are. A trusted name in an increasingly complex media landscape, GBH is moving boldly onto new platforms through new initiatives at a critically important moment in our history. Join us as we usher in a new era at GBH - leading public media in the digital century.

GBH is open, but most employees are working remotely. We’ll continue to bring you news and programs, but we’re not hosting tours and have no events planned on-site at our Brighton headquarters or at our studio at the Boston Public Library, which is now closed, for the coming weeks. Wishing you good health.

Working At GBH

When you visit our headquarters, you'll see our mission written around the outside of our building. It’s an integral part of what we do and how we live. And, as an employee, you’ll come in each day knowing that you’re having a positive influence in the world.

We offer many opportunities for you to learn about the broad spectrum of work produced at GBH and to participate in cohort groups to share expertise. We stay connected through a daily e-news bulletin and casual monthly get-togethers.

But we also know that people’s lives don’t start and end here at work. That’s why we offer ample vacation time, and wellbeing benefits that help you achieve strong work/life balance, stay well, save money and reduce stress. You can be part of the team outside of work too, with GBH-sponsored softball, volleyball, and kickball, as well as an annual 5K run that supports public media.

GBH is one of many businesses located in Boston Landing one of Boston’s fastest-growing neighborhoods. GBH employees have easy access to public transportation, shuttle service, restaurants, and coffeehouses, and even a bowling alley. While most GBH employees work out of our headquarters, we also have offices in Springfield, Massachusetts (WGBY), Woods Hole, Massachusetts (WCAI), and Burbank, California.

I only went as far as HR interview, but she had a great positive energy about her which made the interview not intimidating at all. They also like when you apply more than once, because it shows your determination to get the role.
