Geotechnical Engineers, Inc. (GEI) was founded in 1970 by five graduates of Harvard University and MIT. The company's geotechnical roots were planted early on in the nuclear power field, completing projects at more than 20 nuclear power plant sites during its early years.
The company earned an international reputation as a leading consulting engineering firm providing innovative solutions to complex geotechnical issues. As the years progressed, GEI gained strong national presence in the environmental and water resources disciplines.
Over the past 20 years, GEI has acquired leading firms to strengthen our core services offerings, and provide highly complementary services and expanded national footprint to better serve our clients. Acquisitions include:
A privately held corporation featuring hundreds of technical experts and broad internal ownership, GEI today serves clients across the nation through 38 offices located coast to coast. We have completed over 35,000 projects in all 50 states, across Canada, and more than 25 countries.
GEI is actively seeking talented professionals who want challenge and diversity in their work, have high standards and integrity, are not "nine-to-fivers," and will be great team players and colleagues. To experience what it's like to work at GEI, see and hear what some of our people have to say.
Selecting the company you want to work for should be one of the most important decisions you ever make. The decision impacts every aspect of your professional and personal life—challenging work that should be meaningful to you; career advancement opportunity; supportive colleagues who you both learn from and enjoy; quality of life considerations, and much more.
GEI recognizes just how important this decision is, and hopes you do, too. We demand that both parties—employee and employer—be committed to making the “right” decision, and that both parties be committed to making that decision a long term success.
We seek seasoned mid-career professionals with strong technical and client-centered skills who are driven to become leaders in their chosen fields.
GEI is a premier national, mid-sized, employee-owned firm. You will learn directly from some of the best and most seasoned professionals in the field. You will be expected to help mentor and train younger staff in an environment uncluttered by the hierarchy and politics of large firms, and focused on client solutions and company success.
GEI provides generous ownership opportunities to qualified mid-career staff, in addition to excellent compensation and benefits programs.
GEI employs great minds who take on challenging and interesting work every day. We are a premier national, mid-sized, employee-owned firm. We expect our senior staff to be highly engaged in our employees’ professional development. We expect you to engage with clients as a trusted advisor, and exceed their expectations through creative solutions, thought leadership, and great program and project management.
In return, we offer a supportive environment that is not dictated by hierarchy or politics, generous ownership opportunities to qualified staff, excellent compensation plans and superb benefits programs.
I have been working at GEI Consultants full-time (More than 3 years)
We are a tight-knit group that encourages collaboration between our offices. We always are looking toward the next 5 or so years, keeping our eye on organic growth. Downsizing is not in our vocabulary. The staff is treated quite well with good salaries, good benefits, and stimulating opportunities.
We could use more bench strength to support some of our projects and service lines.
Advice to Management
Maintain the focus you've had of hiring young talented individuals, especially before the senior staff all retire.
I applied through other source. The process took a week. I interviewed at GEI Consultants (Oakland, CA) in February 2018.
Very casual, a few technical questions, but mostly just getting to know me. The interview was a couple hours because they had a multiple people from the office come in and interview me. Some geologists, some engineers, some upper management. I thought it was a great way for them to get to know me and vice versa.
