As a global corporation, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. prides itself on being a socially responsible company dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities where our customers and employees live and work.

We believe that we can act as a force for good by helping those in need, both through financial aid and through individual and group volunteer efforts. Our employees are active in many charitable and educational activities, and we recognize those efforts whenever possible. One such way is through the Gallagher Foundation, which matches the personal contributions of our employees to qualified charitable organizations, from a minimum of $50 per organization to an annual maximum of $1,000. In total, we estimate that Gallagher gives approximately $2 million annually to more than 2,300 charitable organizations.

We also assist many of our employees as they move through their communities to help those in need. Whether assisting the Red Cross in the aftermath of a disaster, engaging in community outreach programs to support the less fortunate or mentoring young people, we celebrate and support the giving and generous spirit of our employees.

A good start

More than 85 years ago, my grandfather, Arthur J. Gallagher, opened his own insurance agency. His philosophy was to really get to know his clients. He knew that by understanding their unique needs, he could better assist them in reducing their risks while insuring them against losses. He believed that treating people right was good business. And you know what? He was right.

Today, with more than 13,000 employees in hundreds of offices around the world, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. is a true leader in the insurance and risk management industry. We lead in the way we serve our customers, the way we develop our employees and the way we support our communities.

The Gallagher Way

You may have already heard about The Gallagher Way. If you join our team, you'll quickly see that the 25 shared values captured in The Gallagher Way serve as a roadmap to guide our team and drive our actions. They help us make critical decisions that affect our clients, our coworkers and the communities in which we live and work.

Consider Tenet #12: "No department or person is an island." At some companies, it may be common for employees to work and act in silos, without regard to other teams or even their coworkers. But that's not how Gallagher does business. We're a company of entrepreneurs who share in each other's successes. It may sound corny, but we're truly all in this together. That is just one example of The Gallagher Way.

Going up?

If you're joining our team right out of school, you may want to get used to saying, "I work at Gallagher." Many of our employees started here as interns or immediately after graduation. In fact, a lot of our senior leaders worked their way up through the ranks. Along the way, they had support, encouragement and opportunities to learn more than just insurance and risk management skills. They learned the right way to do business. They also learned how to be successful.

Helping others.

As a leader in providing insurance and risk management products and services, Gallagher is focused on protecting businesses and families against loss and helping them to recover after a loss occurs. We also believe in being good corporate citizens, and many of our offices, teams and individual employees are very active within their communities. Gallagher encourages and promotes these efforts to support charitable organizations, protect the environment and assist others who are in need. That's another example of The Gallagher Way.

Looking ahead.

I truly believe that we are fortunate to be working in the greatest business in the world. We help clients around the globe address risk, protect their assets and recover from losses. The products and services we provide keep businesses and institutions running, and enable individuals and families to rebuild their lives. Gallagher is well positioned to take advantage of the unlimited growth potential in this industry. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to build an exciting and lucrative career, while developing lifelong friendships along the way.

I have been working at Gallagher full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company as a whole is a great place to work - the culture is very strong and supportive. The communication - especially from management - during COVID-19 has been very good. It's a unique place to work in that it is a publically traded; but run by the Gallagher family - which makes the culture that much stronger. Another unique aspect is that Gallagher is very entrepreneurial in that they are always striving to find new ways to address issues; which allows for people to be creative and launch new initiatives. One of the biggest initiatives and I would say unexpected benefits is the Internship Program - where 5-600 interns descend on Gallagher offices and it makes the work environment very exciting. The service to the community component is also an unexpected benefit in that Gallagher invests in communities and programs in which we live. The company has launched many national and regional partnerships and sponsorships (Special Olympics, Sports teams and Leagues (UK).

    Cons

As with any company, there are downsides; however, in my opinion, the good outweighs the bad. The benefits offered need an upgrade in general - they could offer more creative and relevant benefits to younger people (college debt programs, etc.) Medical plans are expensive and are all high deductible plans. The company does contribute to the high deductible plans - which helps, but is not substantial.

    Advice to Management

I think executive management is a steller team in their leadership approach, open to change, and always looking for ways to be a stronger, faster company. They continue to make significant investments in people, tech, and they foster a career mentality. I would say that management should continue their investment strategy
