Geisinger – Why Work For Us?

Shaping the Future of Health.

At Geisinger, we’ve been focused on advancing the future of health for more than a century. From our MyCode Health Initiative, our ground-breaking genomics program, to our innovative Fresh Food Farmacy, which offers life-saving alternatives to patients with diabetes, our commitment to leading healthcare change runs deep. What you do at Geisinger shapes the future of health and improves lives.

"There is a beauty in the simplicity of taking care of whoever comes in the door, for whatever they are there for, regardless of what insurance they have (or don’t have) and what language they speak (or don’t speak).”

Jaewon Ryu, M.D., J.D., Interim President and CEO

Our Caring Culture

At Geisinger, we’re led by core values: kindness, excellence, learning, innovation and safety. Each helps us challenge the norm, elevate our shared success, and work together to redefine the way we care for our people and communities.

We work as a team and lead with care in all aspects of life at Geisinger, which is why we’ve been named one of Becker’s Healthcare’s top 150 places to work in healthcare. Above all else, we want our employees to love what they do and feel appreciated. We’ll give you more time to treat patients, and we’ll reward your hard work with competitive salaries and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid vacation time, a 401(k) plan and more.

Diversity & Inclusion

We believe a diverse culture is essential for delivering competent, compassionate care. Employee Resource Groups are one of the ways we encourage diversity and inclusion. While ERGs are formed around common identities, they are open to all Geisinger employees to learn, connect and engage with different cultures within our organization.

We’re also proud to be recognized by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation as an LGBTQ Healthcare Equality Leader.

Our Commitment to Community

When Abigail Geisinger founded Geisinger more than 100 years ago, her intent was to provide the best care possible for her Pennsylvania community. Today, Geisinger’s commitment to caring for our community extends far beyond the walls of our hospitals.

Locally, we are responsible for:

  • More than 30,000 jobs
  • Nearly $1.9 billion in salaries, benefits, training and education
  • $580.2 million in community support in 2017

Statewide, we are responsible for:

  • $9.9 billion in total impact on the local, regional and Pennsylvania economy
  • 44,000 jobs provided through direct employment and "ripple effect" job creation
  • 127% growth of Geisinger’s family of employees since 2010

In addition to elevating the economic well-being of our communities, Geisinger is proud to have team members who invest their energy into a variety of community endeavors. Last year we donated $3.1 million in services to community organizations, including the American Heart Society, Big Brother/Big Sisters, YMCA of Centre County, Danville Area School District, Humane Society, United Way, American Cancer Society, and many more.

Leading Healthcare Change

At Geisinger, our innovative ideas are inspired by the communities we serve – like our Fresh Food Farmacy, a program that delivers life-saving healthy alternatives to patients with diabetes. And with initiatives like our MyCode Community Health Initiative, one of the first health system genome sequencing programs, and integrating DNA screening into routine health check-ups, it's no wonder we're ranked one of the Top 5 Most Innovative Healthcare Systems by Becker's Hospital Review. We continually work towards continuous improvement in a culture where everyone has a voice and firmly believe that better begins with all of us.

Geisinger is considered a leader in precision health with the success of its MyCode Community Health Initiative, which has enrolled more than 200,000 patient-participants and is already delivering medically relevant results to participants and their primary care doctors.

Nursing at Geisinger

Geisinger offers our nurses countless opportunities to achieve their goals and provide the best care to our patients through a rewarding, lasting nursing career. Geisinger’s nurses achieve high scores in safety, quality and efficiency, all directed at providing the perfect patient experience every time, for every patient. The excellence of our nurses and their interdisciplinary collaboration is why Geisinger Medical Center is one of just 18 Pennsylvania hospitals – among fewer than six percent of all hospitals in the United States – be named a Magnet® hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

To further support our network of over 6,000 nurses, we created the Geisinger Nursing Institute in 2017, which serves as a governing body with an advocacy component, overseeing recruitment and retention, and the practice and education of nurses to ensure they are adequately represented across the organization and in leadership positions.

Geisinger is currently offering a variety of bonus options for eligible RNs including sign-on, relocation, or educational bonuses (up to $20,000) to qualified applicants (subject to change).

I have been working at Geisinger full-time (More than a year)

Switched to pro-quality objectives: longer appointments (40 min for 65+), pharmacists do diabetic and pain mgmt, no RVU based pay, aggressively pursue team based care. Good salary, easy to maximize work life balance.

Lots of data and number crunching. Hard to see how the metrics are compounded. Rural area.

    Advice to Management

Continue the focus on primary care driven quality. Continue to simplify data when possible.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Geisinger (Camp Hill, PA) in September 2017.

I was very nervous but people were so friendly. Very helpful staff in Human Resources and the interview process went smoothly. I also received a Benefits enrollment guide and the explanation of the onboarding process.
