Nursing at Geisinger

Geisinger offers our nurses countless opportunities to achieve their goals and provide the best care to our patients through a rewarding, lasting nursing career. Geisinger’s nurses achieve high scores in safety, quality and efficiency, all directed at providing the perfect patient experience every time, for every patient. The excellence of our nurses and their interdisciplinary collaboration is why Geisinger Medical Center is one of just 18 Pennsylvania hospitals – among fewer than six percent of all hospitals in the United States – be named a Magnet® hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

To further support our network of over 6,000 nurses, we created the Geisinger Nursing Institute in 2017, which serves as a governing body with an advocacy component, overseeing recruitment and retention, and the practice and education of nurses to ensure they are adequately represented across the organization and in leadership positions. 

Geisinger is currently offering a variety of bonus options for eligible RNs including sign-on, relocation, or educational bonuses (up to $20,000) to qualified applicants (subject to change).

    I have been working at Geisinger full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Switched to pro-quality objectives: longer appointments (40 min for 65+), pharmacists do diabetic and pain mgmt, no RVU based pay, aggressively pursue team based care. Good salary, easy to maximize work life balance.

    Cons

    Lots of data and number crunching. Hard to see how the metrics are compounded. Rural area.

    Advice to Management

    Continue the focus on primary care driven quality. Continue to simplify data when possible.
