I have been working at Georgia Department of Labor full-time (More than a year)
The best thing about this organization is that it is very family driven. One of the only organizations I know of that give you more than enough paid time off, and this includes annual, sick, educational and personal leave. Friendly environment, good benefits.
THE PAY!!! This is a state agency, and state agencies have the worst pay of any local government agency. Just about everyone in my office has a second job in order to make ends meet. When you work a full time 40 hour a week job, especially when its a state agency, you should only have to work a second job if you want to, not because you have to.
Advice to Management
If you are closer to the home office there is more room for advancement, but overall if a higher position becomes open locally they definitely look to hire from within first.
I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Georgia Department of Labor (Atlanta, GA).
Panel review with five people who work there in different departments. Standard questions although some were very specific to work functions. You will have to answer questions about how much you want to be paid and if it's not in line with how much they have budgeted for you probably won't get a call back.
