    I worked at GigSmart full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    GigSmart values innovation and cross-functional collaboration. As a startup, there are a lot of opportunities for product development professionals (product owners and UI/UX designers) to drive:
    - User feedback processes
    - New feature prioritization and requirements
    - New feature design
    - Collaborative engagement with sales and marketing to capture, interpret, and implement customer feedback
    - Collaborative engagement with QA to improve manual and automated testing
    - Collaborative engagement with engineering to improve Agile development methodologies as well as rapid release cycles
    - Collaborative engagement with data/analytics to measure feature success and identify areas for improvement

    From a product ownership perspective, GigSmart offers great opportunities to rapidly develop and iterate on product features and enhancements with highly engaged and talented designers, engineers, and QA professionals, all of whom actively contribute and provide feedback throughout the software development lifecycle. GigSmart uses both formal and informal Agile ceremonies to align the team towards common goals.

    The startup mentality of GigSmart also lends itself to developing camaraderie with team members, where the hard work of solving difficult problems often happens in an environment that is open to debating, in a congenial manner, opposing viewpoints. I found this to be a valuable means to expand the way in which I assessed problems by incorporating new viewpoints, contributing to my professional growth.

    There are a number of fun activities that go on at GigSmart outside of the day-to-day work, including corporate outings (happy hours, baseball games, etc.) as well as gaming groups at lunch (rpgs, etc.). I was a frequent champion. The snacks are good.

    Cons

    As with most startups, product professionals at GigSmart should expect to work longer hours at certain times of the software development lifecycle (e.g., major launches).

    The nitro cold brew is super caffeinated, not for amateur caffeine consumers (like myself).

    Advice to Management

    Continue fostering collaboration across the functional groups.
