    Project Manager Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Saratoga Springs, UT
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Global Payments (Saratoga Springs, UT) in May 2018.

    Interview

    Standard: 1 Phone Screen, 1 2-Part Series

This was an exercise in the absolute worst case scenario of interviewing.

The job description and the initial interview goes one way, the on-site interview is for something entirely different.

In addition to that, the VP seems to not really like anyone over the age of 30. In fact, in the entire office I saw 1 person who *may* have been close to 40. Maybe.

The first portion of the series was a smooth as one can expect for an interview based on a job description for a completely different role.

They advertise for “Project Manager”, but what they want is a cat herder - who doesn’t use a laser pointer. There’s not a project board in sight - anywhere, and they talk about missing completion deadlines like it’s no big deal.

Then to top it all off - the decision marker doesn’t even ask questions. Just the generic “tell me about yourself,” but when you begin - you’re hijacked.

You never really get to say much of anything about yourself or your background. Instead you are informed of (what I can only guess) is all the way the VP (who knows nothing about you) thinks you don’t fit it.

Not the worst candidate experience in history, but definitely a subpar overall experience.

    Interview Questions

    • All the questions are centered around how diverse your project background is, and how you manage people.

These are all great questions.   1 Answer
    • The second series has no real questions, just someone who says they’re trying to get a feel for your personality via discussion; which is a good thing, but decides mostly based on your age and whatever preconceived notions are carried along with that.   1 Answer
