    Pros

    After a short amount of time with the firm, it's easy to see that Golub Capital has created a team of incredibly smart people, encourages a collaborative culture and is growing at an accelerated rate. The firm also strives to retain its entrepreneurial spirit through innovation, technology and flexibility.

    Application

    I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Golub Capital (Chicago, IL) in October 2019.

    Interview

    Selected to interview at this firm through a recruiting firm. Had phone technical phone screen with, followed by two 4-hour interviews split across 2 days. Which was a bit ridiculous. First interview day consisted for a technical interview with a current lead engineer that went well. Followed by another technical interview with an enterprise architect which went well too. Next was a standard HR interview. Followed by an interview with the hiring Manager. The highering manager during our interview answered his phone and proceeded to have a phone conversation over the phone, it was quite unprofessional, but I maintained professional demeanor, as I understood these things happen. But when the hiring manager proceeded to do the same thing a 2nd time, it is then I determined that I didn't want to work for this place.

    I left the interview and spoke to the recruiters at the agency where I informed them I wasn't sold on this place and that I had some additional reservations about the role. I told them what had happened and they looked very surprised and mortified. They apologized profusely on behalf of the company and asked if I could come in a 2nd day to discuss the role, the firm, and my concerns with the hiring manger, senior director, and a member of the executive staff. I said okay, and on the second day, the conversations with the senior director and executive staff member went great. Then I had another conversation with the same unprofessional hiring manager as before and it seemed that he had heard the feedback that I gave to the recruiting agency proceeded to try to grill me with obscure, "gotcha", questions about C# that had Googled and printed out. He didn't want to talk through my resume or work experience. And he didn't want to ask me any questions about architecture, best practices, or even a white boarding problem. He just wanted to stick me with questions that he had Googled, that most engineers wouldn't remember off the top of there head and would have to Google anyway. He then proceeded to denigrate me and say umprofessional things about my engineering ability. Needless to say I was put off by the whole experience and learned alot about this firm during that interview process. I wouldn't have wanted to work there at all!
