I have been working at Gorton's full-time (More than 10 years)

Talented people who work hard and genuinely want to help the business succeed and grow. Strong promotion from within bias. A place where almost everyone wants to help new people succeed. Great benefits plans. Admirable business goal: help people enjoy the benefits of eating more seafood.

The entire food business is going through a transition and Gorton's is adapting to that change. As consumers and retailers change, the company is also changing to better meet the needs of consumers and retailers. If you want a stagnant place where change is avoided, this is not the place for you.

    Advice to Management

Keep the evolution proceeding - those who have posted negative reviews should go elsewhere, most people here do not agree with them.

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Gorton's (Gloucester, MA) in March 2016.

Friendly people, long 2 1/2 hour interview with 6 different people most of them asking redundant questions. They gave me a walking tour through the plant and showed me how all their fish is Pollack that comes from Alaska, which is comical since Gloucester is one of the oldest fishing ports in the country.

    Interview Questions

    • I was required to take a standard timing model skills assessment at Scientific Management Techniques Inc. in Merrimack, NH. First let me say I graduate top of my class from a highly rated technical college and worked the last 8 years as a top performing aircraft mechanic for Lockheed Martin, so needless to say, I am highly skilled. Well, I went and took this assessment test which has 4 15 minute timed tasks where the examiner creates a jam in the machine and you must correct it. I corrected 3 of the jams in 8.5 minutes, 7.5 minute and 4.3 minutes respectively, and had a little more challenge on the 4th task, corrected the jam in 13 minutes. This company reported to Gorton's that I failed the exam, ranked in the 3% percentile and I had poor troubleshooting skills. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, this company doing the testing is a joke!! They don't have a clue what my skills are, and because Gorton's relies 100% on this assessment scoring, I was not offered the position. I have many years of verifiable skills and references to prove my value and have never in my life had trouble finding good jobs, so the big loser here is Gorton's.   1 Answer
