Employee Testimonials

Get the inside scoop from real employees about life at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.

"I love working at the Resort because it has provided a lot of opportunities for my career to grow. My favorite part of the Resort is all of the friendships that I have made, both personally and professionally, working in a lot of different positions." Allison Hettmer, Conference Services Assistant

~

"I love working at the Resort because I am constantly surrounded by phenomenal people. There are multiple opportunities to grow here. My favorite part about the Resort would be the amenities we have here. The golf is outstanding. I'm impartial to it, but we have phenomenal golf courses and I love to play them." Seth Britton, Golf Course Superintendent

~

"I love working at the Resort because I love the people that I work with. I moved to Traverse City from Chicago  a few years ago. A big city, impersonal and there's a family at the Resort that I haven't experienced as I've worked at other properties in large cities. A second reason I love working at the resort is I really feel that I can make a difference here. We are supported from the top, our ownership all the way down. Every day I am encouraged to make the lives of my team, the lives of my colleagues better. That's what motivates me every day. And the third reason is I like to have fun and this is a place that encourages you to have a ton at work. This is hospitality. It's not as serious as it may sound - as other jobs seem. Hospitality is a good time. It's a lot of work but it's a lot of fun as well and I love working at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa." Ryan Buck, Director of Sales

~

"My favorite part about the Resort is the community I've built here and the friends that I've established." Sara Kassien, Health Club Assistant Manager

~

"I love working at the Resort because my boss allows me to be creative in my job---and the resort benefits, of course!" Catie Anthony, Benefits Manager

~

"I love working at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa because we get to work in hospitality, which is one of the most dynamic industries, as far as I'm concerned. People come here to have a good time and relax. It's rewarding to be a part of that process and to help them enjoy their vacation. My favorite part about the Resort has got to be the people. You can work at a lot of places and it can be a good job but if you don't have great people, it's just not the same." Kelly Yauk, e-Marketing Manager

~

"My favorite thing about working here is the positive energy that comes into this whole resort. It seems that everyone loves where they work, no matter which department they work in." Paige Martin, Barista

~

"There are so many reasons I love working at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. I've been working here for 10 years and a lot of people say, "My work is like a family, we all get along, we all support each other". I feel that way about the Resort. This place is really my family." Chloe Leach, Spa Desk Supervisor and Spa Groups Coordinator

~

"I love working at the Resort because there are many opportunities, not only in your department but in others too once you start working here." Mila Lus, Aerie Restaurant & Lounge Waitstaff

~

"I love working at the Resort because I enjoy my job each and everyday. I enjoy coming to work. I enjoy the people that I get to work. I enjoy what I do. I also enjoy making sure that our guests have a very fun time and a good time while they are here at the Grand Traverse Resort." Paul Galligan, Director of Golf and Ground Maintenance

~

"My favorite part about the Resort is there are so many things to do with family and the guests. We have a resort family here, between the employees and the Club Members that I get to interact with. It feels like a community. It's a great place to be." Kyle Oberstadt, Club Membership Manager

~

"I love working at the Resort because, one - I like my job. I fix whatever needs to be fixed. It could be a walk-in cooler. It could be a light. Second - I like working with people from all different departments. I like the interaction with everybody and figuring out the problem, and coming up with a solution." Dan Platt, Engineering

~

"I love working at the Resort because it's a great atmosphere. A lot of fun people. My job is great. I get to meet a lot of different people from different walks of life and I'm an outgoing kind of person that I like to get to know different people. It's a lot of fun, our department at the health club is great. And I get to play tennis and enjoy what I like--what I love to do." Fernando Valmar, Assistant Head Tennis Professional

~

"My favorite part about the resort is the people I work with because they are all really outgoing and we have a great time together." Kaitlin Hicks, Cubhouse Assistant Teacher

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

One of the most pertinent virtues of a good employer is to make its employees feel valued. I have never felt more valued than in my ten years at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa. Management goes out of their way, not only to tell me that I'm valued, but to show it. I've been given every possible tool to excel in my field and in my professional pursuits, including extensive opportunities for education and hands-on experiences. Management is vested in the personal success of their employees, understanding that a successful employee makes for a successful company. My time at GTRS has enriched me like I never imagined. I've truly grown up here, and I consider the staff my second family. I've gleaned more practical knowledge here than in any college program, and the Resort has truly ignited my passion for the hospitality industry.

    Cons

Like any hospitality industry - be prepared to work any holidays and weekends. Hospitality never sleeps!
