Interview Critique: How To Respond To 'Do You Have Any Questions?'

I've been recently recruiting for a vacancy and have carried out numerous interviews over the last few weeks. I ask many questions during an interview, but there is always one question that seems to frighten the life out of most: "So, do you have any questions for me?"

  • How do you land the job you want?

3 Things Make Recruiters Fall In Love With You

Lately, I've been focused on telling job seekers all the things they do that make recruiters crazy. i.e. how your resume makes them cringe, and how you're probably sending the worst cover letter ever. Harsh, I know. But, I can't stand to see hard-working job seekers failing miserably.

The Greenway Experience

What makes us unique.

We listen.

Greenway® genuinely wants to know What is Your Experience?®. It’s a question we constantly ask of our customers, our partners and ourselves.

We’re alike.

We think we have a lot in common with our customers, because the Greenway team is comprised of physicians, nurses and other clinicians, as well as practice administrators, health system/hospital executives, financial experts and information technology innovators. We seek out those with experience in clinical environments when hiring the people who will deliver our solutions, which are all designed, developed and supported in the U.S.

But we know our customers are on the front lines of healthcare delivery every day, and their ongoing input is critical to our development cycle, as are the insights we gain through our relationships with strategic business partners and dozens of healthcare and health IT organizations. It all guides our innovation, business strategies, partnerships and actions, helping us help our customers make a difference.

We’re engaged.

From weekly KLAS-style conference calls to regional events, beta partner relationships, dozens of customer tours by senior management, and our popular annual user conference, we aggressively encourage dynamic interaction with and among our customers to ensure that our solutions’ workflow, usability and functionalitymeet their current and future needs and maximize the value they receive from their relationship with Greenway.

We care.

Yes, it’s a phrase that’s often overused. But the commitment to an exceptional customer experience and outcomes is one that the Greenway team takes very, very seriously, and we’re constantly told that it’s a true Greenway differentiator. Every day in every way, we’re asking What is Your Experience?

Corporate Responsibility and the Greenway Foundation

Making a difference across communities.

At Greenway, social responsibility is integrated into our business model. As a company dedicated to the advancement of health, Greenway is keenly aware of not only the challenges of the sustainability of healthcare and how it impacts communities, but how our solutions can and should provide philanthropic benefits on many levels.

Software as a service. Literally.

To meet that goal, in 2010, Greenway® donated our integrated EHR, practice management and interoperability software PrimeSUITE® to Northern Kentucky University’s College of Informatics and College of Health Professions. There, it’s being used to create merged curriculums to aid in the training, development and research tools of the next generation of health information technology professionals.

We followed the donation of PrimeSUITE with one to the University of West Georgia in our hometown of Carrollton, GA, and provided the technical support and training for the university’s Health Services Center to convert health records for its entire student population from paper to digital charts to improve healthcare coordination.

Those are but two examples of how we’re working to make a difference.

The Greenway Community Foundation

Taking our efforts a step further, in 2010 we launched The Greenway Community Foundation, which embraced the Carroll County chapter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta as its initial beneficiary. The Greenway family is proud to assist the Boys & Girls Clubs teach life-applicable skills while having fun and preparing kids for their future.

The Greenway Community Foundation has provided ongoing programmatic funds, on-site mentoring and company-sponsored internships toward employment to the nearly 200 Carroll County youth ages six to 18 the club supports through its own comprehensive outreach to area youth.

West Fest

West Fest 2013West Fest is an annual music festival successfully launched in 2012 by Greenway and other corporate leaders in the community to raise funds to support the Carroll County Chapter of the Boys & Girls Clubs.

The two years’ events were a huge success, with the 2013 event’s record proceeds of nearly $100,000 going to support the local club chapter. Check out the West Fest website for details of upcoming events.

The ‘Do Right’ Scholarship

Do Right 2012Alyssa Daniel of Carrollton High School received the Greenway Foundation’s “Do Right Scholarship” for 2012. Greenway developed the annual $3,500 award in 2011 to provide college education assistance to a high-school senior and member of the Carroll County Boys & Girls Club.

Students are selected based on demonstrated financial need, academic merit, leadership in the community, extracurricular activities and community service. The award is also a recognition of the invaluable community service the club provides.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Greenway Health (Tampa, FL).

    Interview

I got contacted to first take an online assessment. The assessment was a combination of vocab, math, and pattern matching (not related at all to software, but they say everyone has to take this). Then I had a phone screen with their recruiter. After that, I was required to take the assessment again but it had to be proctored.

I then had another call scheduled with the recruiter and they set up a phone interview with the hiring team. I had the phone interview and then they sent me a coding challenge with five days to complete it. I sent in the coding challenge and then I was asked to come in for a face-to-face interview with the hiring team.

They reviewed my code, asked me some question about how I would improve it, and asked me some general CS questions. There were some behavioral questions too such as questions about working with teams. I got the offer from them a couple days later but I had to decline for personal reasons.

It sounds like a lengthy process but it was only about two weeks for everything. I had positive interactions with everyone I spoke with and it seemed like a good place to work.
