*Employee Spotlight—Colin Kelahan, Paid Social Account Manager*
How did you hear about Growth Pilots?
When I began planning my move to California, I went through my network in the Marketing and Tech community and was pointed toward Growth Pilots by a friend.
She had recently relocated from SF to Chicago and had previously worked at GP and had great things to say about the agency.
How was your on-boarding experience?
Very thorough. I have worked with a variety of companies from early-stage startups to larger, more established organizations. As much as every company would like to say they have a well thought out, process-driven onboarding process, it is typically easier said than done.
GP had everything laid out to get me acclimated quickly both professionally and socially with the team here in SF.
What are three words to describe Growth Pilots?
Diligent, Supportive, Growing
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I’m a twin!
Last week, our Director of People Operations and Associate Director of Paid Social had the honor of representing Growth Pilots at the Google Partners Elevator Training in LA with Alex Langshur. To say it exceeded all expectations would still be an understatement. Those two days left them more inspired, motivated and determined to help take our company to the next level.
While we're so grateful for our Google partnership and the incredible opportunities it provides our team, what's more exciting is seeing our team members learning, growing and developing each and every day!
Growth Pilots is a digital marketing agency based in San Francisco that specializes in paid search and paid social advertising. Although we consider ourselves an agency by classification, we act much more like an internal marketing team that’s dedicated to the mastery of paid marketing channels for our clients.
Our CEO, Soso Sazesh, decided to start Growth Pilots after constantly coming across high-growth companies struggling to figure out paid acquisition. They lacked the time and expertise to do it internally, and their experiences with agencies were often marked by passive management, poor communication, lack of transparency, and limited investment from agency account managers juggling too many clients.
Growth Pilots was founded to be an answer for frustrated companies looking for a dedicated partner that would stop at nothing to achieve results. We selectively partner with very few best-in-class companies so that we can take the time to understand a client’s business and treat it as if it were our own.
I have been working at Growth Pilots full-time (Less than a year)
- Great team and company culture -- they truly care about their employees and they show it by way of excellent perks and benefits. They understand that happy employees who enjoy coming to work make for a stronger team.
(Perks include frequent breakfasts and lunches, team incentives (we had in-office massages last week!), work from home on Wednesdays, weekly happy hours -- and the list goes on...).
- Promote individual growth and development - We are all allotted a quarterly stipend to put toward individual professional development. It can be used to take classes, attend seminars, buy books or tools -- or pretty much anything you think will help you expand your skillset and grow as a marketing professional).
- Defined company structure with career-pathing and opportunities for promotion -- as much as strong structure and career-pathing, etc. are things companies want to prioritize, it is often easier said than done. Growth Pilots has put in the time and energy to build a well-defined, well thought out structure and have created clear paths in a variety of directions for everyone to grow professionally and have opportunities for advancement within the agency.
- Highly developed tools, strategies and processes. Whether you are new to Digital Marketing or a seasoned veteran they have many tried and true methods, tools and processes that help make GP the successful and strong agency it is.
It can often be a challenge starting up at a new company but Growth Pilots welcomed me with open arms and have immediately made me feel like an integral part of the team. Can't wait for month two and beyond!
To be honest, I really haven't come across a "con" yet!
Advice to Management
Keep doing what you're doing! I can see the effort you all put into building such an amazing team and making this a really great place to work.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Growth Pilots (San Francisco, CA) in January 2017.
1 Phone Call with Director asking basic questions about culture, why I wanted the job, and my background. After getting past that, 1 In-Person interview with Director (more on technical capabilities for the job), HR (asking about organizational abilities), some current employees (100% culture fit test), CEO (more so him sharing background of the company and allow you to field questions about GP)
