Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative – Why Work With Us?

Although we are a cooperative established over 80 years ago, we are far from stuck in the past. GVEC began in 1938 when a group of farmers came together to serve electricity to their local farms and neighbors—since then, we have never stopped moving forward.

Over the years, though, we have never lost sight of what it means to be a cooperative. Our member-owners’ best interests are always at the core of our decisions. This is reflected in the expertise, products and services we have grown into beyond electricity, as well as the community-focused work that has always been a part of who we are.

Providing electric, internet, solar and battery storage, AC/heating, and electrician services to members and communities across our 3,500 square miles, 13-county slice of South Central Texas keeps us dynamic, diversified and in-touch with the needs of those we serve. We believe this is the key to continuing success far into the future.

GVEC is an employer with purpose. We’re not just here to do a job, we’re here to make a difference in people’s lives. It’s how we structure our services and what we expect from our employees. To help us fulfil this purpose with all we do is a list of eight Corporate Values that remind us of the standards we adhere to.

Customer Service – We realize the importance of our members and will work to achieve their satisfaction, putting them first in all we do.

Ethical Behavior – We will conduct ourselves in an honorable manner, reflecting high morals and integrity.

Professionalism – We will operate in a manner that shows courtesy, respect, and dignity for each other, our members, and the public.

Teamwork – We will work together in a cohesive and supportive manner to accomplish our goals.

Employee Development – We will recruit, retain, and promote based on qualifications and attitude, and we will encourage the continued education and training of our workforce.

Good Corporate Citizenship – We will work toward developing and expanding our communities, both socially and economically, encouraging community involvement by our employees.

Safety – We make safety a top priority and work to create a safe environment for our employees and the public.

Prudent Financial Management – We will manage the resources of our member-owners in a diligent and responsible manner, using sound judgment in all our business practices.

An Employer with Purpose.

GVEC is a cooperative with a bigger purpose than just delivering products and services.

We wholeheartedly believe in empowering the people and communities we serve with unbiased information, responsive services and tangible resources. Our scope of work is based on the overall value we can contribute to our members’ and customers’ homes, lives and to the communities we’re part of.

A Genuine Community Resource.

Supporting our communities is a defining characteristic of GVEC. Besides the many community-oriented programs we offer, you’re also likely to see us out supporting local events and community initiatives, celebrating first responders and providing resources to our local schools and Chambers. We also work though our own economic development subsidiary, Guadalupe Valley Development Corporation (GVDC), with local and state organizations to attract new businesses to help make the areas we serve a great place to live and work and ensure prosperity for generations to come.

It takes an array of talents, skills and professionals to support the varied services of our Cooperative. With positions in many different departments, there are career paths with plenty of opportunities for growth and room for advancement. We employ individuals with a strong work ethic, positive attitude and who work at a high-performance level. Reflecting our expectations, we offer competitive pay, excellent benefits and advanced support programs.

I have been working at Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I have to say that this is the best place that I have worked outside of the military. The work environment is laid back and unless something breaks, I don't really feel pressured at all. Management trusts me to do my job without feeling pressured during the process. I feel that I more freedom to do what I do best and my opinions do indeed matter here. I am not used to this.

    Cons

There are no cons to working for GVEC that I have come across and I don't feel that I will.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!!

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Guadalupe Valley Electric Cooperative (Gonzales, TX) in February 2017.

    Interview

The interview was set up by someone in the office. We set up a time that was convenient for us all. I met with three people at a very, very large table. All the interviewers were professional, kind and courteous. The questions were reasonable and the interviewers took turns asking questions. I actually really enjoy it!
