I have been working at Guru Technologies full-time (More than a year)
Pros
Team - Friendly, intelligent and collaborative team. Youthful and energetic.
Lax environment - no strict dress code, unlimited PTO, monthly transparent town halls, dog-friendly, cold-brew coffee & craft beer on tap, monthly happy hours, etc.
Leadership - experienced, transparent and down-to-earth. All have a proven track record from their previous companies.
Product - a legit product that actually solves real-world problems. It's great when you work for and help build a product which you also support and can get behind. Great customer base, all very happy with how Guru works for them and their teams. We're building something very special here.
Cons
As the team and office space has grown (soon to be 100+ employees and 2 full floors!), we still don't have employed office cleaners. Currently all employees need to share and participate in "office chores" - unfortunately only a small amount of recurring employees are the ones who actually follow through with cleaning duties. Because of this system, the office can often times feel like a frathouse - kitchen sink filled with dirty dishes, empty drink glasses and beer bottles scattered about, trash and used glasses left in conference rooms, overflowing trash cans in the kitchen and bathroom, stinky old leftovers in the fridge, candy wrappers and to-go food containers on the kitchen table, dog hair on the lounge couches, etc. Hopefully soon Guru can be grown up enough to have a dedicated office cleaning crew so that the core team can focus on what they do best, and be able to do that a clean, tidy environment.
No 401k yet (hopefully coming soon) and healthcare benefits can be a little better.
Really though, those are my only major gripes. Not a lot of bad things to say!
Application
I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Guru Technologies (Philadelphia, PA) in September 2018.
Interview
The interview process at Guru was incredibly informative, with lots of opportunities to better understand the role and, more importantly, experience the company culture. Everyone involved was engaging and helpful throughout, and it was evident that they valued their employer and took the responsibility of selecting a future teammate seriously while having a lot of fun with the process.
The first interview, which occurred a couple of days after my initial application, was a phone screen with a recruiter who provided an overview of the company, the position, and the interview process. The second interview was also by phone, but this time with a member of the People Ops department. This was another chance to learn more about the position, with the questions being more specific to the required competencies.
The third interview was an in-person session, with three segments: an interview with hiring manager, an interview focused on competencies (mine was with People Ops and VP of Business Development & Partner Success) and interview focused on culture (with two non-People Ops Guru team members). All of the interviewers asked great questions, and we're open to conversing about their experiences at Guru. And, to my delight, everyone was a lot of fun!
The final interview was a more casual lunch about a week after the in-person session. It was nice to get to speak with everyone in a less formal setting, and it was great to see them all embody the Guru values I learned so much about throughout the application process.
As promised, I received a final determination on my application within a few days of our lunch.
