I worked at HBR Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)
HBR offers an autonomous working environment. For junior resources, it is a rare opportunity for high client exposure and ability to learn a very transferable skill set. Also, the management team invests significant time and resources in developing talent.
Compensation is average at best, but the experience will typically provide greater longer term value. Also, there is limited upside (i.e., bonus) but falls within the typical Big Four consulting range. Lastly, HBR is focused on a single industry and once within a practice group, you will only focus on that offering.
Advice to Management
My only suggestion is to explore other opportunities to award top performers. Also, you should consider a rotation or leadership program to allow analysts and associates to rotate from group-to-group. This would really help to get / retain top talent.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HBR Consulting (Chicago, IL).
Phone screening, interview with an analyst, in-person interview with two managers, case study and wrap-up with analyst. Smooth process; quick turnaround; friendly and direct
